The leaves are cut from two shades of cardstock, Jellybean Green and Sour Apple, so the wreath has natural variation from one leaf to the next. A sweep of Hansa Yellow Shade PanPastel warms the edges, and chartreuse colored pencil traces the veins so each leaf catches the light the way real foliage does. For the figs, small paper eggs from our spun shapes are wrapped in Fern Extra-Fine Crepe Paper and brushed with Primary Magenta Extra Dark pastel until they ripen to a deep purple. Short lengths of floral wire give the leaves stems for tucking, and everything settles into a 10-inch grapevine form from our wreaths and hoops. Build up the pastel on the figs in thin layers, since a little goes a long way on crepe.

The fig is one of the oldest cultivated fruits, long linked to abundance and a well-kept home, which makes this wreath a warm greeting for guests. Hang it on the front door through fall, or lay it flat on the table as a centerpiece with a pillar candle in the middle. It also pairs beautifully with our Cardstock Fig & Pomegranate Ornaments if you’d like a theme that carries through the holidays. For a fuller fall display, set it near a vase of our Crepe Paper Mums.

FAQs

Can I make this wreath without a cutting machine?
Yes. The leaves are simple shapes to trace and cut by hand. If you do use a machine, our Cricut cutting chart lists the cardstock settings.

Can I hang this wreath outdoors?
Yes, under a covered porch. Keep it out of rain and direct sun so the paper and pastels stay fresh.

Can I use a larger wreath form?
Absolutely. Simply cut more leaves and figs to fill in a bigger grapevine base.

Is this a good project for beginners?
Yes. The leaves repeat the same few steps, and arranging them on the wreath is the fun part.
