Become a MemberIntroducing our favorite DIY fashion statement for fall: acorn and leaf necklaces! Fall fashion has to include warm hues, so of course we went for our favorite copper wire to make these necklaces. You can find all the materials you need for this project at your local jewelry store. We picked up our chain, findings and beads at our jewelry haven, Dava, and bought 20 gauge copper wire from Amazon.
Start by downloading the printable instructions for a full list of materials. I love DIY jewelry projects because they can really just act as a starting point. There is no need to make these exactly according to our design! You could easily make acorn and leaf necklaces in gold or silver versions too. We used a 16 gauge copper wire, but I would recommend checking out different weights of wire to customize the design to the style you want. Generally you need wire to form the leaf and beads to form the acorn. You may be able to find an acorn charm at your jewelry store, but we decided to create our own simple acorn use a copper cap bead and a basic brown oblong bead.
Once you have your materials ready, use a combination of round nose pliers and flat chain nose pliers to follow along with the photo tutorial below. Print the PDF template to use as a guide for bending your wire. Have no fear! Copper wire is really easy to bend, especially with the right pliers. To get a better feel for the material, you can also browse our other copper wire projects. With the holidays coming up, these acorn and leaf necklaces are also a wonderful DIY gift option. My hope is that showing you some of these DIY jewelry techniques will be the perfect starting point to give you the confidence boost you need to create your own designs!
