The Crepe Paper Double Tulip is an advanced-level project, so be prepared for a fun challenge! This project will guide you through detailed techniques that result in beautiful, lifelike flowers. Don't worry if this project feels intimidating; I'll be right there with you during the live session to walk you through every step!
Tulips were once so precious that they were treated as currency during the 17th century. Though this "Tulip Mania" doesn't create quite the same frenzy today, they're still a beloved symbol of beauty and fresh beginnings. They are also among the first flowers to bloom in the springtime, reminding us that winter's long, dark days are merely temporary and life is always waiting to start again.
Creating these Crepe Paper Double Tulips is a truly artistic endeavor, and I can't wait to teach you the techniques to make them pop! For example, , the key to a realistic double tulip lies in layering different petals and giving them texture. Using double-sided crepe paper, we'll craft beautiful blooms with a soft, natural look. I'll guide you through shaping the petals and leaves and layering the blooms so they stand out with a lovely fullness and dimension
Once you've crafted your Crepe Paper Double Tulips, the possibilities for displaying them are endless! These blooms make beautiful standalone pieces, perfect for a vase on your table or windowsill, bringing the beauty of spring indoors. They also work wonderfully as part of a larger floral arrangement for weddings, special events, or simply to brighten your home.
I can't wait to see how your tulips turn out, so remember to share your creations with us on Instagram using #MemberMake.

I was a bit too heavy handed with the colored pencil on the petals despite all your reminders but I’m going to see if I can mute /blend them a bit by adding some pan pastel on top before I shape them. Any other tips for fading those out? The new technique for tulip centers is interesting and will help me with another project. Thanks for all your great tutorials. I look forward to these every month!
Blending in a layer of pastel over the top of the colored pencil should soften the darker color. You might even want to use a light spray fixative after you make the flowers to set the pastel. I am sure they will be gorgeous!
Have the perforated lines been added to the pattern
Yes they have!
Lia, I remember writing to you over a year ago asking about fixing broken PanPastel. You mentioned then that you were going to make a “fix it” video. I’m still waiting for it, although not as patiently as a year ago.
Hello Helene, yes, we are busy over here, so that one slid through the cracks. We recently got some notes from the manufacturer, so this will be a more precise video, which is good news. 🙂
Uhh, can’t wait until we get started with the beautiful flower later 😀
I am excited too! See you there!
Hello,
Could you take a look at the SVG file again-as it uploads to Cricut-unable to get the measurements of 18×11 of artwork. Ex. I can get 18×10.34.
Thank you,
Looks like cricut is just shifting everything when uploaded but the sizing is correct. I have updated the svg to keep it from moving, you should now get the correct measurements!
Thanks so much! Looking forward to making these beautiful flowers with you and Meagan.
See you soon!
Can I use this pattern to make the flowers out of felt?
You can try. Let me know if you do. We also have these two versions of tulips in felt: https://liagriffith.com/search/?offset=0&orderby=relevance&order=desc&per_page=12&search=tulips&relation=and&tax-category=2295%2C2306
Should the crepe paper be stretched before I cut the petals out?
Not for this flower. 🙂
Should the crepe pair be stretched or not?
I’m looking forward to joining
Yes, the crepe needs to be stretched before cutting.
Looking forward to these beauties! I’ll be recovering from a fairly major surgery, so I won’t be able to join you live. Have a great session, and I’ll catch the video when my head is no longer on major painkillers 😉
Speedy recovery, Diana! We hope to see you back soon.
How many large petals do I cut? 3?
Yes, you can cut 6. We will fix the template to show this.
Just coming here to ask this same question! Thanks.
The template is now updated saying cut 6 of the larger petals. 🙂
Will I be able to see the video at a later date? I have an appointment at noon pacific time that day.
Yes! You will have the replay to watch at anytime and as many times. 🙂
Pretty! Looking forward to making it.
I am too! I want to see those centers being made. 🙂
