We are so excited to show your our updated version of this classic David Austin rose. Similar to the real flower, our crepe paper Juliet rose is a fully cupped bloom with many layers and petals nested in the center. Typically these roses are a light peachy-pink color, but you can make them in whatever color you like.
Along with showing you how to make the full bloom, Meagan will also be teaching you how to make the buds so you can make your own bouquet. If you have not joined us for our Member Make workshop before, be sure to read our instructions below on how to participate!
Crafting tips: Building this flower while holding it upside down helps the petals stay in place. Once completed, hang the flower upside down until the tacky glue dries.

Hello. I am working on this juliet rose right now and after watching the video over and over I find that my centers of the rose are still popping out, or forward more than I like. Should I trim it a little? Do you have any hints? It could be something about how I place the bundles in the center. In the photo it looks like the bundle opening is facing towards the center. Is that right? I can’t figure it out so far. My flower still looks beautiful, just want it to be more true to life. Thanks so much!
You could trim them back a little or move your outer petals up and around the center to create that shape. Yes, I believe we did face the curls of the bundles towards each other.
Lia, Megan, and Emily,
I’m in the UK, I joined as a member in July after being inspired by Lia demonstrating on The Craft Store (Hochanda) shows. Just watched this video and WOW, what an achievement for Emily, what instruction from Megan and what support from amazing Lia. I’m going to try and “keep up” with the course I’ve signed up for, despite bereavement, total refurb of house and work commitments. You all have brought a moment of joy to my life…. thank you. I think I can achieve this lovely rose…. I’m SURE I CAN…at least, I’ll try..!!!
-cathy (London, UK)
Thank you so much for your sweet words, Cathy! So glad we could bring you some joy 🙂
I don’t want to complain as I really enjoy being a member and enjoy making all the flowers but making the rose I found it really hard to see how the petals were placed to form the tight rows round the centre as it was upside down most of the time I found myself guessing as a result my flower was very open and flouncy not ugly at all but didn’t look like a Juliet rose i will keep on trying but I really want to see better how the petals were placed at the stage I have explained above any help would be gratefully received in the uk we are finding it extremely hard to get crepe paper especially the extra fine due to COVID and Brexit . Best wishes to you all from the uk
Hi Jane, we added a photo tutorial that may help give you a closer look at the parts you’re having trouble with!
Hi Lia, I was not able to view the member make due to having out of town guests. When I finally did view it I really struggled seeing the work on the center and petal A positioning because the lights against the blush paper and white tray made it hard to see detail. May I suggest working against a darker background when working with light colors? I believe it would make it easier to see.
I love my finished roses and buds, just completed them this morning!
Thank you to you and your talented team for all your inspiration.
Thanks for the feedback, Linda. So glad you love your finished product!
fantastic
will there be a photo tutorial?
Yes, we plan to add photo tutorials to our member makes shortly after the live event. It takes some time to do that, so check back next week 🙂
What size should the SVG file be set at? It is not noted when I uploaded into DS
Hi Brandi, it should be the correct size when uploaded in Design Space, no changes necessary.
Thank you Lia I have now just managed to purchase a roll of extra fine blush .
Can double sided paper be use instead.Your extra finepaper is hard to find in Australia it seems to be always sold out
Double-sided paper will create a more stiff/structured flower but you’re of course welcome to try!
Oh, one more question: will a low-temperature glue gun work? Thanks!
Yes!
Hi Lia!
How many 10mm balls will we need? They’re out of stock in the shop, so I’m trying to find them elsewhere. Also, how much of the crepe paper will we need? I have some Blush in the Secret Garden pack, but that’s just one roll–I’m guessing with these flowers that won’t go very far!
Thanks!
Hi! You can get the balls from Smile Mercantile (https://www.smilemercantile.com/collections/spun-cotton/products/spun-cotton-balls?variant=12106527303). If you’re creative with your cutting, you can get 2 flowers per roll of crepe paper 🙂
