Greenery, filler, and plant stems are some of our favorite pieces to design. We love giving your DIY bouquets a little variety, and it’s fun to bring a bit of the spotlight to nature’s less glamorous offerings. However, no one can accuse these stunning Crepe Paper Smoke Bush Stems of being a “Plain Jane.” Wide textured leaves of deep, deep purple make these crepe paper stems not only fitting for the fall but transform them into a showstopper worthy of top billing.

Because of its intricate design, we consider this a project best suited to intermediate crafters. We recommend using a cutting machine for convenience, but by hand works just as well. Download the template below once you’re ready to get started.

Purple Haze

Smoke bush leaves are commonly waxy green, but some varieties come in a beautiful deep purple hue like the ones we’ve designed here. The name “smoke bush” comes from the billowy-haired flower clusters attached to the plant itself.  However, we chose only to highlight the leaves due to their gorgeous color. To capture the smoke bush’s lush movement, we made the stems from twisted crepe paper instead of our usual floral wire.

Once complete, gather your smoke bush stems and place them in a vase for a bold and dynamic fall arrangement. Though beautiful on their own, these smoke bush stems could bring something really special to your collection of fall flowers. Remember to let us have a peek at your beautiful work by uploading a pic into our crafters’ community or on Instagram with the hashtag #MadeWithLia.
