Right when you’re starting to feel like you are ready for a vacation from all the cold winter weather, tulips start blooming around you and spring begins to brighten your days. This signature spring flower is a wonderful way to bring some much needed light into your home decor, and we’re showing you how to make these beautiful blooms out of crepe paper. The coloring on real tulips can almost look like brushstrokes, with white and pink hues marbled together on each petal. To create this effect, we used art markers on our crepe paper tulips and the result was gorgeous.

Tips
Crepe paper is unlike any other paper material, and because of this there are specific ways that it should be handled and manipulated. If you are new to crafting with crepe we always recommend watching our Crepe 101 video for tips on cutting and stretching the paper. There are plenty of art markers that can be great for adding color to crepe, but we specifically like using Copic brand. We have designed crepe tulips in the past, but we must say that this newest technique blows the original tulips out of the water!
Get Inspired!
We have just recently started playing with adding marker to crepe paper flowers, so to experiment more with the technique be sure to try out our crepe paper crocuses. Lia, can I use pan pastels instead of markers? If not, do you recommend alcohol based markers only?
Absolutely! This tulip is an older project we made before we found PanPastel. 😉
Hi! What is the exact shade of pink marker used here?
Hi Shivangi,
We used a Copic art marker in Light Peach (R22)
Is there an SVG of this template?
Hi Sara,
We have added the SVG file to the post.
Thank you so much!
Love your flowers! The template seems to be missing some of the pieces shown in the directions. I cannot find the pieces shown in the instructions above. Is there another template somewhere? Thanks!
Hi Julie– what pieces seem to be missing? The template includes the 2 pieces for the center & stamen, petals, and 2 leaves.
I have just found your website! Your flowers are beautiful and so realistic! I’ve just ordered some crepe paper from Amazon to try and start making the beautiful blooms. Wish me luck!
Best wishes from the UK.
Yay! Welcome Diane!! 🙂
Hi Lia just wondering about the shade of yellow marker that you used?
It’s Copic Y15, Cadmium Yellow 🙂
I could not get the effects shown with a pink marker.
Follow the tutorial steps closely, use scrap pieces of crepe paper, and keep practicing!

I’ve been looked by for something tone passionate about… I remember making tissue paper flowers as a child. I want to turn this cray into a business. Next few months I’m going to make and perfect this beautiful art. Thank you for giving me something to be inspired and excited about!! My only question is, how do you know what weight the crepe’ paper should be for your flowers? Do you have a list with these suggestions??
Oh Melony, this makes my heart so happy! I hope you enjoy getting back into flower making and crafting. Each flower tutorial and pattern lists the materials used including the type of crepe paper 🙂
