Become a MemberWe love creating pretty wedding cake toppers that readers can include in their DIY weddings, like the Our Love Grows topper or Amore topper. The only problem is that both of those toppers require a cutting machine. We recently got a request for a wedding cake topper that you can cut by hand, so we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to use some of our metallic crepe! Here is our simple yet gorgeous crepe paper wedding cake topper that you can easily craft without needing any extra tools.
We only used two materials for this topper – crepe paper and flat copper wire. The great thing about this crepe paper wedding cake topper is that you can adjust it for any size of cake. Start this project by forming the copper ring base. There is no need to worry about bending the wire into a perfect circle because you will be able to cover up any imperfections with the copper crepe paper leaves! After bending your wire, begin trimming your leaves. We used a combination of our extra fine crepe in Gold, Copper and Cypress. But you can choose any colors that complement your wedding color scheme! Print the PDF template and use it as a guide for cutting your leaves. The grain lines are marked on the template, so make sure those match up with the crepe.
Once you have all your crepe pieces cut, you can arrange them randomly around the copper wire ring. Our top tip for accomplishing a pretty arrangement is to make all of the leaves point in the same direction around the ring. Then you can start building out from there. We decided to keep our crepe paper wedding cake topper pretty simple, but you can easily add some crepe paper flowers of your choice to the wreath as well. To finish things off, we wrapped sparkly silver ribbon around the base of the cake with a few crepe leaf accents. This is a great way to give the cake a cohesive look! We know that cupcakes are also a popular treat to serve at weddings, so feel free to adapt this crepe paper wedding cake topper design into smaller cupcake toppers.

What do you use to keep the wire ends together when you form a shape? Hot glue doesn’t seem to hold well. Thank you!
Hi Ann! I added a dab of hot glue but also wrapped the wire around to secure.
What a great idea! I have been pinning a ton on inspo to my Pinterest board for cakes, but this is super cute!
