I first created this website in the spring of 2013, and we recently celebrated our 4 year anniversary. Can you believe it?! When thinking about the event that we wanted to host, we certainly planned to create a celebration to remember. Naked cakes and cupcakes have been a super popular trend in the wedding industry in the last two years, and since no one on the team is getting married in the near future, we thought our anniversary party would be the perfect opportunity to try it out in our studio! These are photos from the actual DIY cupcake bar we set for our party featuring some of our wonderful designers and team members – we hope you enjoy!
Setting up your Cupcake Bar
Start setting up your cupcake decorating bar by picking your treats. We used all vanilla cupcakes from a local bakery, but you can also set out a variety depending on what you know your guests will eat. Next, whip up a couple of different frosting options and a couple of different sauce and syrup options. This part is a good opportunity to add in some color, like with a pretty pink raspberry frosting. After each of these components are squared away, it’s time to brainstorm your toppings. For this, our motto is always “more is more”! We included raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, chocolate sprinkles, chocolate covered sunflower seeds, cacao nibs, coconut flakes, pecans and slivered almonds. Have fun with it!
Cupcake Decorating Station Printables
To give your DIY cupcake bar some extra flair, we made printables that you use to label your toppings. We came up cute phrases like “garnish your goodies,” “cover your cupcake” and “dress your dessert.” Attach them to toothpicks and stick them in your containers with toppings. To edit the sauce labels, download and install the free fonts Arvo and Braydon Script. The final piece of putting together our cupcake bar was adding those adorable paper flower cupcake toppers. These are optional, of course, but we think they are pretty irresistible. Once you are done, sprinkle in some botanicals around your table or maybe even some mini gerbera daisies.

Where can I find the cupcake paper cups you used? Love those!
I’m pretty sure I picked them up at Michaels awhile back, but they’re available on Amazon! https://www.amazon.com/Regency-Wraps-Baking-Standard-24-Count/dp/B003A02Y2O
Perfect, thank you!!! I am hosting a baby shower in July and I am hoping to adapt this idea, but with your cactus banner template instead (yeek!! so excited!!) .. and the cupcake paper looks like a pot! I can’t wait to share the pics with you all! 😉
