Designed with younger makers (and the young at heart) in mind, this project keeps things simple while delivering a satisfying product. You’ll start by cutting simple felt shapes, then layer and stitch them together to bring each kitty to life. The construction is straightforward, making it a great introduction to felt crafting, especially for beginners learning basic sewing and assembly.
As you build your Felt Playful Kitty Pocket Pals, you can keep things classic or let your creativity take the lead. Choose soft, natural neutrals for a sweet, sleepy kitten, or reach for brighter colors to give your kitty a bolder personality. Add embroidered whiskers, tiny noses, or even a little patch detail — each small choice makes your finished piece feel unique.
A dab of tacky glue can help hold pieces in place while stitching, which is especially helpful for younger crafters still getting comfortable with a needle and thread. And because the shapes are simple and repeatable, this is a wonderful project to make more than one — perfect for siblings, playdates, or a full set of pocket-sized companions.
These kitties are made for play. Slip one into a backpack, tuck it into a coat pocket, or gift it as a small handmade surprise. They’re soft, sturdy, and best of all — ready for whatever adventures come their way.
If you’re looking for a craft that’s easy to learn and full of charm, these Felt Playful Kitty Pocket Pals are just the ticket. When your little kitties are ready to head out into the world, share them with us in the crafters’ community and on social using #MadeWithLia — let's see what you create today.

Leave a CommentI am unable to print the kittens template? do I need to wait until next month?
thank you
Yes, it looks like as a monthly member you have downloaded your additional projects. You can still pick from our monthly collection! 🙂
Hello, I am looking to make some felt cats for a friend’s new baby. I want to make a mobile with them but don’t know how big these cats are?
Many thanks
These are an average of 4.5 inches tall. You can resize them easily when printing your template if you would like them larger or smaller. They would make a darling mobile.
Hi, I’ve kind of just dropped into making things with felt etc … but really I don’t know anything about it. I’m more at home with a cross stitch chart & a bundle of threads, but my finished work is just a picture, yes it takes months of work & a small degree of skill, but I’ve recently been made a grandma by my son & his wife & I’d love to start making things for her that she can eventually start playing with. I made the whole ‘Birth Announcements’ & I also cross stitched her 1st Birthday card, but now she’s 15mths & crawling, I’d like to give her something to play with, with a 100% certainty that it’s child friendly & I never have to take her to an A&E because she’s put something in her mouth that could very well be dangerous. Anyway, sorry got off track there!!
In my short journey I have seen a lot of people talking about machines that cut a host of fabrics & card, but what are they? Are they expensive? Being on a very tight budget we don’t have a lot of money to spend on luxury goods & a lot of my crafts have been with recycled household waste like bottles that I have put lights in, various plastic washing tabs that are now containers or I’ve cut up to make other things. I’m also disabled & a lot of money goes on taxi’s to & from my specialists as I cannot travel on public transport as I can’t get my wheelchair through the narrow isles, but would it be worth my while to put a little bit of money to one side each month & eventually be able to maybe buy a 2nd hand one, but as I don’t know what I am doing or what it is that I need, what sort of machine would I need. I’ve love to make my own cards & cut out templates in paper & fabric, but where do I start??
Any help would be gratefully received.
Kindest Regards
Angela ♡
Congratulations on your granddaughter! The machine you’re hearing about is the Cricut Maker, an electronic cutting machine that cuts felt, fabric, crepe paper, leather, and several other materials. It’s an investment, but probably wouldn’t be worth it if you’re happy cutting your projects by hand 🙂
We loved this project. Kept my 9 yo busy all weekend. We used our Cricut Maker to cut the felt.
Just one comment, the SVG file is missing two pieces for the orange kittens paws. It only cuts two pieces for the paws, so we had to cut that mat twice. Something to address of you ever go back and review the pattern.
Loved it!
I’m so happy to hear this was a good project for you and your kiddo! Thank you for letting us know about the SVG file– I just updated it!
My daughters are cat crazy and these cats are simply WAY too cute!! I think I might pop it away in my idea box for a holiday craft idea! They will love them 🙂
Ahh yes, great gift idea!
This is absolutely going to be my first project when I get the Cricut Maker. I have been wanting to make these forever!
This would be a great one for the Maker! We’ll start adding SVG files for our felt and crepe projects over the next few weeks 🙂
Hi – can you upload the SVG file for this project when you have a min? Thanks!!
It has been added 🙂
We LOOOOOVEEEE all of your felt projects, Lia. Thank you so much for sharing them. Just wonder why don’t you include SVG files, they might make them easier for us who own Cricut machine to cut out the patterns with chipboard or cardstock paper and trace them on the felt then cut?
We do not create SVG files for our felt projects because we do not want to encourage our readers to try cutting felt with their machines. We have not have the best of luck cutting felt with our Cricut, so we did not want to create any confusion for our readers. We try to design our patterns so that they are easy to cut out by hand, and I recommend you try printing the patterns out onto cardstock.
Can’t get the pattern. ..I keep clicking the download load….buy it doesn’t work. I’m a member
Hi Linda, can you try a different web browser? I checked the file on my end and don’t see any issues. If you still have problems, send an email to hello@liagriffith.com.
This will be my first project from Lia Griffith, I’m so excited. What type of needle do you use for your felt projects, the kitten photos appear to contain a simple cross stitch needle and/or a craft needle, similar to these needles (found on Amazon as an example):
amazon.com/Dritz-25-Piece-Assorted-Craft-Needles/dp/B004VP5U96/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1454815013&sr=8-2&keywords=cross+stitch+needle
Thank you for your help!
Exactly! Those craft needles would work perfectly. Embroidery needles are too large for the felt stuffies because they will leave big holes in the felt. Just make sure that the craft needles have a large enough eye to thread your embroidery floss through 🙂 Best of luck!
Hi Liz. A million thank yous for these adorable felt kitty patterns!! Yours of course are so colorful and just make one smile ? I have lots of quality felt because I’ve been wanting to do felt crafting. I had done some felt crafting as a child which my mom taught me. Seeing all the beautiful and fun felt crafting on Pinterest just inspires me further. Thank again Lia, for these cute as can be kitties! Perhaps doggies and bunnies next? (yes, I have a doggie and my dear sweet rabbit, Hopper who was with us over 10 years, had passed last year).
Happy Holidays to all ☺
Thank you so much for your lovely comments!!! We have been LOVING our felt crafts this season. We do have a couple of bunny designs that you can check out: https://liagriffith.com/diy-felt-easter-bunny/, https://liagriffith.com/felt-christmas-bunny/
Doggie felt crafts are a great idea! Look out for them in the future 😉 Happy Holidays to you and your family!!
i plan on using some felted wool I have made.
How fun!!
These are so cute! I made felt toys back when I was at school and would love to have a go at making some more now, I think that these would be great for a Christmas present for my cat loving niece!
She will love them!
Merci pour le tuto. Je suis débutante en couture et je vais essayer de le faire pour un neveu.
Have fun, I am sure your nephew will love it:-)
Love the project, and am surprised to see Felt on the Fly is near me – I’m planning a short road trip coming up in the near future to check it out! Thanks for the tutorial, and the info on Felt on the Fly!!
How fun! Make sure you say hi from us!
These are adorable and make the cutest gifts for cat lovers. I think they would make adorable Christmas ornaments too. Where would I find the beads for the eyes? I cannot locate these at my local craft store. (I only have one:-()
We are all huge cat lovers, most of us in the office have a cat at home:-) We got our beads at a local craft supply store called Collage, I would think you should be able to find them online. Have you tried Amazon?
Too cute! Thank you once again Lia.
You are welcome:-)
Hi Lia!
And the puppies? I Love! Please! ; )
Well of course:-)
Danke für Ihre wunderschönen Printables.

tout mignon, merci pour le tuto
These kittens are so stinking cute I can’t stand it. Thank you.
Exactly what I was thinking:-) What should I make next?
Lia, your felt patterns are just awesome!! and I love how they are free even more!! I have made a few of yours now and I just adore them xxx
Thank you so much. Felt is my new love:-)
Aw, so adorable. All the little details are so perfect, makes them almost look real. Love colors used for their bodies. Hope I can make them look as good as original creator with the details.
Will be getting felt so I can make these soon. Maybe forgot to put in how to’s for the kitties? They come in handy so I don’t miss a step. I sure am going to be busy gal making all these felt critters, will be cute to send to our grand daughter at college so she’ll have little something from us. She ought to be there sometime today, her family and her on way from CO yesterday to San Rafael, CA. Maybe her sister will like some too. Always make sure we give evenly to both girls.
Have wonderful week
Thank you for the reminder, we just added the tutorial:-) How exciting with college, we wish her best of luck! I am sure she would love a memory from home.
