DIY Paper House Christmas Ornament
For the second year running we took part in the Michaels Dream Tree Challenge and are super-pleased to be sharing all the DIY tree ornaments we made using materials from our local Michaels store. Our love of Scandinavian design shines through in today’s DIY project – our cute paper house tree ornament. This simple little house design is made from white card stock and can be cut by hand or with a cutting machine. Download the PDF for the template if you plan to cut by hand and use the SVG file if you will be using a cutting machine.

Become a MemberOnce all your patterns are cut you can use a low temperature glue gun to assemble each house by scoring along the lines, tucking the tabs in and closing the roof flaps together. Thread the apex of the roof with a length of glitter cord and your paper house tree ornament is ready to hang. We used the string lights on our tree to illuminate our houses, making them look like the prettiest little Holiday homes we ever did see! If you love our Dream Tree, and want to get your hands on the patterns for each of the DIY ornaments, then pop back here over the next few days. We have already released the pattern for those cute pinecone birds, and you can pick that up over here. Enjoy! ~ Lia

So cute!!
My favorites too!! 🙂
Lia how big are the houses?
They are about 3 inches tall.
Love this idea! Thanks for sharing, Lia 🙂
How lovely they look and how much they remind me of the ones I made last Christmas. 🙂

Thank you so much, your houses are beautiful! And you have a great tutorial for those who want to make houses but do not have a cutting machine 🙂 Bravo!
These are just adorable. I made my first little house, and am wondering how to get the score lines. I am using the Silhouette Cameo, and it cuts like a charm, but somehow, I am not seeing the score lines. Do you have any suggestions? I am thinking this is “user error”. Thank you if you have suggestions. I have loved your site, and am now official….as I used your Black Friday special to join for the year.
Here’s to making, crafting, and creating!
Welcome to our little crafting community, thank you for your sweet comments!! Generally, the score lines for all of our designs will be in magenta 🙂
Can I use the .svg files with my Silhouette Cameo? Thanks!
You can use the .svg files with your Silhouette Cameo if you have the Silhouette Designer Edition software 🙂 The software allows you to upload your own files.
Thanks so much for sharing your so gorgeous Designs. You’re so clever xxx
Thank you for sharing! However, I’m having trouble with the SVG font after I’ve uploaded into my Cricut Design Space. The scoring layer isn’t aligned so when I cut it out, the house doesn’t align correctly with the scoring lines. What do I need to do in Cricut Design Space so that it cuts and scores correctly?
Unfortunately this is a Cricut Design Space bug that we have encountered with other users before. Our only advice is to align the score lines to the actual design to the best of your ability. This is a Cricut issue that we hope will be fixed in the future! Good luck!
Thank you Lia for sharing your beautiful designs.
Thank YOU, Pearl! We so appreciate all of our readers, you are the reason that we do what we do! 🙂
All the Best,
Lia
I can’t wait to make these in different stock card color
Yay! So happy to hear.
This has got to be one of cutest little houses to make, love love it. Am so enjoying making projects. Need couple small houses for display am making this will be perfect. Might try to make windows and a door little differently for showing sake, maybe make in other colors. Again, you all have scored big big star. Can hardly wait to see what rest of ornaments will be. Happy week
Stay tuned because we are making a whole village. 😉
Sheesh you’re good! They’re like little itty bitty milk cartons transformed. I’m an interior decorator. I.must.try.to.make.these (maybe hang all around my desk) thanks for the pattern.
Thanks! They are pretty adorable. 😉
