Felt Chipmunk
How cute is this felt chipmunk that Krista designed? A perfect end-of-summer and early fall craft, this is a great intro project for anyone wanting to create more 3D felt animal stuffies.
Because of the 3D construction and the details involved, we would say this felt craft is somewhere between a beginner and intermediate skill level. Just download our pattern and tutorial on the right hand side of this post, and be sure to reach out if you have questions!

This felt chipmunk has sewn-on felt details for his signature stripes and a posable wired tail (made possible with a pipe cleaner!). For an extra level of cuteness, we gave him a tiny pine cone to hold. If you do go exploring for pine cones, you could also grab some bigger ones for your kiddos to make some adorable felt and pine cone crafts.
As with all of our felt stuffies, we recommend using detail scissors for a more precise cut. But you can always use your Maker or Cameo 4 if you prefer to use your cutting machine.
Skill level: Beginner-Intermediate.
Stitches used: Blanket stitches, whip, straight, back, fly, and ladder stitches. For more guidance on these stitches, check out our embroidery guide.

How to Make a Felt Chipmunk
- Gather your craft tools and materials. Then download our pattern on the right hand side at the top of this post.
- Cut out felt according to pattern using a cutting machine or scissors.
- Using your PDF pattern as a guide, whip stitch the stripe details onto both of the body pieces, mirrored. Use 1 strand of floss to match the felt, working in one layer at a time.
- Whip stitch the two stripes onto the tail.

This is an older project and we have updated our tutorials since. For this one it is best not to print, but double click to enlarge in your computer window.
Lia, i am new to your club. I down loaded the squirrel stuffy, to get the template. where is it now? i dont see were to get it to print Thx Barb
Also can i buy supplies from you?
Welcome, Barb! Depending on which browser you are using, when you click the download bar for the PDF it will open a new window in the browser showing that template. You can then see in the upper right-hand corner there is a row of icons. You can either print from there (be sure and use 100%, full size, as it often defaults to print smaller) or you can click the folder button which will download it to your computer. Check your download folder or even do a search for “chipmunk” on your computer to find where it is. Often times it will simply be on the desktop but it all depends on how your computer is set up.
For the supplies, we have the list of everything you will need for this project right in the post. You can click on any of these to see our source and most of them are now from our shop “Felt Paper Scissors”. If you are a new annual member you even have a coupon!
Made my chipmunk over the long weekend. It was a lot of work, but I love him!
I’m so glad!!
I love your animals! I was wondering if you could design farm animals? Especially, a milk cow. My daughter would love to make one.
Cute idea, we’ll add it to our idea list 🙂
