Often misunderstood, possums are nature's nocturnal helpers. These backyard critters are very effective at getting rid of unwanted pests like insects and rodents. Along with their distinctively rodent-like faces, possums are also known for their long, hairless pink tails, which they can use to grasp tree limbs and hang upside down.

To achieve that trademark possum look, we gave our felt possum long, wiry whiskers made with embroidery floss. And to mimic their long prehensile tails, we sewed a chenille wire stem inside our stuffie's tail to make it poseable. How cute is that? Craving more cute critter action? Try your hand at these mouse and rabbit stuffie projects.

Whether you craft one or a whole passel of possums, don't forget to share your creation with us in our crafters' community or on  Instagram with the hashtag #MadeWithLia.

Stitches used: blanket, whip, and ladder stitch.
