Felt Succulent Tutorial – Part 1

Last week we created a gorgeous piece of wall art for the studio wall outside in my yard. Using three wooden boxes, a couple foam blocks and a collection of our new felt succulents, we made a piece that is totally on-trend yet has a super-cute crafty twist. You can see how to make the completed project here. Today I am sharing the tutorials for making the first three of the six felt succulents.

We used a selection of gorgeous wool felts in a variety of greens, teals and grays which compliment one another beautifully. Don't be afraid to explore online and in craft stores for great felts that go well together - the quality of the material you use really goes towards achieving a great finished product so take the time to chose gorgeous felts. To make these felt succulents you will also need fabric scissors to cut the pattern and a hot glue gun to put the pieces together. Below you can find the template PDF which you will need to download and print before following the step-by-step tutorials. There are 6 felt succulents in total, the first three are below, the second three I will share tomorrow so make sure you make a note to come back! LIa, thank you for all your creative inspiration! I’d love to share my felt succulent pictures with you. I wanted ask: what scissors do you use? I’m tired of buying cheap, plastic handled scissors or even mid-priced ones, only for them to dull out after a while. I have huge hands and need ones like the ones in your photos above. -G

  Hi Rachel, this is an older post and was made with felt purchased from our local fabric store. If I were to recreate this project today, I’d purchase felt from Benzie Design. The closest colors are Aqua, Fern, and Moss 🙂

How does one sign up for membership? I want to make the felt succulents. no cricut here have to do it ole fashioned way cut felt with sissors Thank you Doris need pattern

Thanks for another adorable project! I can’t wait to make these succulents but I was oh so hoping for a svg file to cut everything out with my Cricut! Any chance you have one to share?

    I have found that the strong grip cutting mat and using a stabilizer is key. The only downside is that the stabilizer leaves one side of the felt flat and shiny.

      That is a great tip. I think for something like these succulents, the stabilizer would show, but for other projects it could be just the ticket.
