DSCF7198SponsoredBy_BirchLaneA couple of months ago, I had the privilege of playing around with the Octavia Chair from the raw wood furniture collection by AVE Home. I chose a charcoal grey and antique pink color scheme for my raw wood chair to create a stunning balance between masculine and feminine energies. Today I am showing you how I finished AVE’s raw wood desk to match my pretty finished chair! Their gorgeous Colette Desk comes with antique brass hardware, fluted legs, and beautiful intricate carvings that complement those of the Octavia chair.

I began my raw wood desk project by removing the hardware. After lightly sanding the desk, I painted the entire exterior with a coat of charcoal grey Chalk Paint. It is not necessary to paint more than one coat, but I did go back to touch up any spots that needed it. After letting the charcoal colored paint dry completely, I used basic interior paint that I picked up from my local paint store to paint the inside of the drawers. I wanted to bring in a feminine touch to match my pink and charcoal chair, so I used the same color of pink to coat the drawers. Just as with the exterior of the desk, I painted one solid coat and then went back for any touch ups.

When finishing my raw wood chair, the design style that I had in mind was classic with a modern twist, and achieving that look was so easy with AVE’s raw furniture. The detailing in their raw furniture pieces tends to reflect classic design elements, and adding in an antique pink and charcoal color scheme brings a certain edge to that classic look. Metallic accents like copper and rose gold have been super trendy in home design over the last few years, so I decided to incorporate this trend into finishing the furniture. Before completing my raw wood chair project I added a show stopping stripe of rose gold metallic iron-on down the center of the chair. To mirror that design, I used decoupage glue to add a copper foil stripe down the center of my raw wood desk! The stripe runs vertically down the center of the desktop and continues down the front drawer of the desk. After letting the foil dry overnight, I brushed away any excess pieces. I then added a layer of wax over the entire desk. Using the wax seals the paint while also highlighting the grain of the wood for a gorgeous finish. The last step in my raw wood desk project was screwing the brass hardware back into the drawers.

I can’t wait to tie my newly finished raw wood desk and chair set into my current home decor.
