A heart as sweet as honey

Looking for some cute and simple decorations for Valentine’s Day? These frosted paper honeycomb hearts are so fun and easy to make. I used the same technique for our paper honeycomb eggs that I made last Easter, so make sure to check the video tutorial in that post if you want additional guidance. The only thing that’s different is the shape!

To craft these frosted paper honeycomb hearts, I used some pinks and reds from our frosted paper packs. Once assembled, you can add ribbon and hang them up individually, or use twine to string them together and create a banner. If you’d like to hang them on a branch like we did, we used this crepe paper leaf branch (minus the pears) that we made for one of our Member Make workshops.

Instructions

Gather tools and materials. Then download the pattern below.
Cut and score all paper hearts as shown on pattern.
Fold hearts along all three score lines.
Fold all hearts in half along center line.

These are so cute but have ended up being way more difficult than they appear! Once I finally figured out how to score them I couldnt assemble them for the life of me. Maybe a mark where the glue should go would help?

  That is a great idea. For now know that you glue the top and lower section of the heart (all but the center between the two scores). Then once they are all stacked and glued, you will add the dot of glue at the edge of the center of the middle triangle.

I’m having difficulty with the scoring and cutting acting independently of each other. The scoring wants to do 3 columns of 4 hearts close together. The cutting wants to do 1 mat with 3 columns of 3 hearts, that do not match up with the scoring, and a second cut mat with 1 row of 3 hearts.

How do I get the Cricut explore Air 2 to maintain the formatting for both scoring and cutting?

  First, select the entire design and hit UNGROUP at the top of the Layers panel. Next, select each score line grouping in the Layers panel (hold down the shift key and select all 3) then while selected, change the linetype to SCORE. Last, select the entire design again, and hit ATTACH at the bottom of the layers panel.

Is the scoring on the svg file?

  Yes, but you have to manually changes those lines to “score” in Design Space, as it will default to cut.
