It is the season for costumes! When Michaels asked us to show another DIY costume for today’s Michaels Makers blog hop, we decided to share one that is perfect for one of Portland’s favorite pastimes. Portland hosts the 10th largest marathon in the U.S. and smaller ones once or sometimes even twice a month. We are a marathon city so of course, we would have a Halloween half marathon. So this is the story of our running bandit costume for Halloween!
Make a Run for It!
I suppose if you are a bandit, it would be good if you were also a runner, right? Well this bandit (our own Anna) is running in Portland’s annual “Run Like Hell” half marathon in a few weeks. And she needs a costume for her and her teammates that would not only let them run. . . like hell, but are quick and easy to make. Hence the running bandit costume!
The first thing we did was make a run to Michaels to purchase a roll of black and and a roll of gold glitter iron-on from Cricut. You know how I love my glitter and this is the perfect place to use it. We then made a made a glittery bandit mask with the Cricut Explore, backing it with soft black felt and attaching elastic to the sides to hold it into place.
Next we made a simple bandit bag from a white yard of fabric and labeled it with a gold glitter iron-on dollar sign that we also cut on the Cricut. These two simple props, a hat, gloves, striped shirt and her running gear make up the rest of her costume.
If any of you are running in a Halloween marathon or just want to dress like a bandit on the run, you can download the SVG cut file or the PDF template at the end of the post. Good luck on your run Anna! Tomorrow we will bring you another homemade Halloween costume that any little girl would love. Come back to see our no-sew felt and fabric butterfly. Cheers! ~ Lia
