Did you know it takes up to six years for amaryllis to reach maturity and produce flowers? While you could always buy one, we think it's a lot more fun to make your own version and enjoy it anytime you want to! You can also make them in different colors and create versions you might not see in nature or find at the store.
Today's crepe paper waxed amaryllis is a great intermediate craft project. So if you're looking for more of a beginner flower, you can try out our simple crepe paper amaryllis instead. Both flowers are gorgeous for the holiday season and can be given as gifts

Back to the TopJust found this video on Jan 5, 2026, after watching my gifted bulb Amaryllis grow. Wish I had found this earlier for Christmas gifts.
One of my live Amaryllis had lots of holiday greens, holly berries, etc. hot glued onto the wax. I will do this to next year’s crepe paper Amaryllis bulb!
On Big Wish: as a new Member I peruse the videos and would love to see dates on them, because the most improved techniques are not necessarily on the most advanced videos, but on the most current!
For instance, in this video, I am curious WHEN you were going to Europe. 2020? 2026? Even the template dates are not nessarily accurate.
Hello Ann! Thank you for your note and feedback. A lot of these videos are filmed live, so it is often “that moment in time”, but I do feel that having the most current version of our process is helpful. Currently, you can use the search menu, then select the “newest” sort to see the most up-to-date techniques. We are working to update a lot of these projects as well. 🙂
Do you dip the flowers in wax at the end?
Not the flowers. You can watch the video to see all of the steps.
What is the size of the bulb? What is the bulb detail used for? I keep missing it on the video? Thanks!
The finished bulb is about 2.25 wide and 3 inches tall. This a method that is used with real amaryllis flowers where they wax the bulb and allow the flower to bloom outside of the pot. You can also make a potted version without the bulb.
