Become a MemberAs you know, I love any opportunity for a fun celebration where I can get together with all of my friends and loved ones. Cinco de Mayo is coming up and it is time for a fiesta! Just because Cinco de Mayo is on a Thursday this year, you shouldn’t stop yourself from celebrating (at least some of) the night away. If you are hosting your own party for the occasion, this paper cactus garland would be a wonderful addition to your event decor.
Our illustrator Krista really outdid herself this time with these adorable cactus designs. All you will need for this project is different colors of card stock, and a piece of ribbon or twine to string the cactus garland together. We went with a vibrant color scheme and picked out a few textured card stocks for some of our cactus pots. So cute! Begin this project by downloading the PDF below if you are cutting by hand, or the SVG if you have a cutting machine. Of course, it would be difficult to cut out the thin lines inside the cactus designs, so the PDF version has those lines colored in to create the same visual texture as the cut ones. In the PDF version, you will also find that each cactus is one piece that you can cut out, which includes the cactus, flowers, and pots. Because the PDF will include all the vibrant colors in the design, this file should be printed onto 8.5 x 11 white card stock.
In the SVG file, there are separate pieces for the cactus, cactus flower, and pot. Choose your colors of card stock and cut each piece with your cutting machine. To attach the pieces together, we used a handy glue dot roller. Next, pick a piece of ribbon, twine, or colored baker’s twine to string together your cactus garland. We used our glue dot roller to attach our cacti to our ribbon, but hot glue would also work for this. And there you have it! An adorable cactus garland for your party decor!
This cactus garland would look great at a Cinco de Mayo party, but it would also be great decor for any summer party! I am having trouble with the svg file. When I download, it just shows up as a picture with color. I thought the cactus, pot, and flowers would be separate so I could cut out with my cricut machine. Can you help me with directions to do this?
Thanks!
Hi! Did you download the zipped SVG file, or the PDF? The SVG is separated correctly so just make sure you’ve downloaded the SVG file, unzipped it, and then uploaded the SVG to Design Space.
They are all so cute, want to get them cut out. Couldn’t wait, had to print out all cacti, 3 copies of each page so will have plenty for long enuf garland, they are so fun. Later will make set (or two) on Cricut to have lines cut out from machine, will combine with cut by hand cacti, think will be incredible garland with all. Or divide up to make two garlands. Am loving this so much. You are so right about Krista going all out, these are excellent. Have wonderful happy week all of you.
Love love love your creations you share with all of us!
