Become a MemberOur papercut spring bird artwork is the second design from our Four Seasons cartridge. We created this cartridge for Cricut a while back and now we can finally share it with our members! The first design was our winter deer (illustrated by our designer Krista).
This pretty spring design is ready for you to download and cut! All you need is a simple frame and some paper. We got our 20″ x 20″ frame from IKEA and we used cardstock for the design and background.
Spring to Life
This DIY project is a simple way to bring beautiful artwork into your home. You can hang this papercut spring bird artwork up separately or put all four designs together (winter deer, fall owl, summer fox).
If you decide to hang this piece of art on its own or place it on your mantel, you can always put a spring flower or plant next to it. For example, the one in the picture above is our crepe paper cherry blossoms. But we have other blooming branches you can make, too. This is a great way to spruce up your home with some spring décor!
When you’re ready to make this papercut spring bird artwork for your home, we recommend using a cutting machine. This is a really quick project for those of you with cutting machines. However, if you do want to cut this by hand, you can download our PDF template below instead of our SVG file. We alternated between a natural white colored cardstock and a linen textured cardstock. We also used foam mounting squares between each layer to give it a 3D look.
Just like the deer design, you can resize this artwork to fit a different size frame. And if you have any questions, let us know in the comments! If you love this project, the other two designs coming up soon are a fox for summer, and an owl for fall. Enjoy!

Thanks for getting back to me!!
You are welcome!
Hi Lia, where did you place the foam peices on each sheet?
This was made many years ago, so on memory, I would add foam in multiple areas and especially around the bigger openings. I feel you can’t have too many risers.
what page/sheet is the correct order? As printed or what?
Krista rearranged the PDF to be in the order of the layers. Enjoy!
I don’t think this or the other woodland animals are in the correct cut order. The fox seems especially off. Without any instructions on the actual project, it’s hard to know what piece is to go where. It would be nice to have an image showing each piece and numbered. I had purchased paper to alternate colors, but soon found out that things were off. Not the end of the world, but I do have a perfectionist gene… 🙂
You might be right. These pieces were designed over 10 years ago and the software has been updated, as has the way we arrange the files. We should do a remake on this set as they are really pretty. I have them displayed in my house still. Thanks for letting us know.
Love this! I notice in the questions all seem to be using some form of Cricut machine. Can you make these images by hand with an exacto knife?
Thanks
Sure! It will look beautiful handcut.
I may be trying to size the pic too small. What size cardstock did you use?
We used 12×12. There are links for the paper in the post.
I cant seem to get the scene with the intricut cuts to cut everything. Its the one with the big tulip in it. I put in a new blade, fine blade, a new standard mat, and either some of the images tear or the cut is not complete. Help
It will really depend on the quality of your paper. I also find that if it tears I need to back off on the setting. Do a test cut on a smaller paper to see if you can find your sweet spot for that brand of paper.
I used the Cricut Cardstock Intricate Cut setting. That helped a lot get a cleaner cut.
That is a great tip!
Hi these files are not working for me not sure what I have done wrong
Hi! Can you email us at hello@liagriffith.com and describe the problems you’re having?
Hi. Love all the items I’ve seen on here! Thank you.
To get the cricut cartridge, do you need to be a member?
-Lisa
Hi Lisa,
You do not need to be a member to purchase a cricut cartridge. However, if you are a member you can download this project and cut it on your cricut today!
I can’t wait to start. Asking all for of these patterns. Each one is so beautiful in its own way. I am pretty new to all this, so wish me luck. Does anyone have any advice for me to make sure I have a successful cut? Thank you Lia for beautiful projects I can create on my Cricut.
Yay good luck! Start with a few test cuts– I usually draw a few circles in Design Space and test cut extra paper or the very bottom corner of the paper I’ll be using for the project if I don’t need the full piece of paper.
The svg of the bird layer has a long cut from the beak down to the nest through an egg. Is this correct? It does not appear in the photo of your finished piece of art. I am not sure how to remove it.
Thank you for letting us know about this glitch! I have uploaded a corrected file.
Thanks a lot, much better!
I have made the owl and bird now, looking good. 2 to go……
I love these paper cut scenes. They are so beautiful. Finishing projects for a craft fair and will see if I can do these on my Cameo.
Thank you Patti! We’d love to see photos 🙂
Hello Lia, I would like to use the SVG file to cut with the machine, how do I view the 6 patterns separately ?? The machine reads them and cuts them all at once …. what escapes me?
Hi! The SVG file is layered, so if you’re using a Cricut it should show up in Design Space as separate layers. Can you send a screenshot to hello@liagriffith.com of what you’re seeing?
Hello Lia, thank you for your immediate reply! I understood what the problem is, I use a Brother ScanNcut and the Canvas Workspace program …. unfortunately it reads the different parts all together, but I managed to divide them …. after many attempts, but I managed!
Thank you!!
Ohh I’m glad you figured it out, but sorry to hear it took some time 🙁
Anyone know where the 4th image/pattern is…with the Fox? It would be the “summer” season. I can’t find it and want to do a set of all four, like pictured. Any help would be appreciated!
It’s coming this weekend 🙂
Did you use white paper for all of the first 5 layers? It almost looks like layer one is more of a cream color?
We did a variation of bright whites, off whites, and even a gray-ish white.
Thank you Lia!
How clever! I love this idea and I think it is fantastic how it can be customized by placing it over a contrasting cut out or over colored paper for more pop. Thanks so much for the artwork!
Yes exactly! So glad you love it 🙂
Thank you for the PDF version, it is much appreciated.
