Become a MemberIn my 12 Months of Martha box this last month, I found this package of pretty Floral Lace. Seeing this along with the Fabric to Fabric decoupage, I knew that I wanted to use the lace to create some delicate earrings that would be perfect for upcoming summer weddings I plan to attend. Though I originally intended to use just one of the laces, I ended up making a set of earrings with all three and trying different techniques and finishes. The first set I used the decoupage on the back to give the lace some weight and keep the fabric flat. Once dry, I added a pearl bead to the top of the earring and attached earring loop into the edge of the lace. Delicate and lovely! The second set I painted with the Martha Stewart craft paint in Winter Mint and once dry attached them onto a small hoop earring. Very cute! Perfect for a little girl or teen. The third set I masked off the flowers and lightly sprayed the leaves in a soft gold. I did this on both sides and once dry painted the backside with the decoupage. These ended up being my favorite of the three and I attached a tiny gold earring on the top leaf of each lace piece. These earrings are not only perfect for weddings, bride’s maids and your flower girls, you can also give them as a birthday or Mother’s Day gift. Thanks Martha for sending such a great box of craft goodness to inspire a handcrafted lifestyle. ~ Lia

Hi Lia, these earrings are wonderful and lightweight to wear. Salute to your talent man. Thanks for sharing.
I have been searching for a way to do this and I have finally found it. The reason why I haven’t messed with it yet, is because I thought that after cutting the lace off it may have a problem with fraying in certain places. Have you or has anyone ever had a problem with this? I’m sure you could use some sort of non fray sealer, but I do not want to compromise the original look or texture of the lace. Any thoughts?
Yes, I used the mod podge just for that. It seals the lace so it will not fray and gives a little bit of weight to the earring so they hang better.
Hi!
I was wondering, would fabric stiffener work in place of Fabric Decoupage?
Thanks!
Yes, fabric stiffener or just the lace itself should work fine.
Super pomysł, już skorzystałam 🙂
Thanks!

LIa I wait everyday to see what new and exciting ideas you come up with. These earrings are sooo cute! On a side note I do have a question for you. Have you ever made a paper Calla Lilly? I thought I would use my curious metallics ice gold paper for the flower but what should I use for the yellow center? Just roll yellow paper? I love your flowers because they really look real. Any suggestions … thanks for all your help.
I haven’t made a paper calla lily yet. They are a little tricky since it is just on petal with a lot of curves. Here is one from Oh Happy Day. http://ohhappyday.com/2012/04/paper-calla-lilies-diy/
