Become a MemberWe love to use a tote bag. I always keep one rolled up in my handbag ready to be used if I happen to pop into the grocery store, the bookstore or my local craft shop. Using iron-on vinyl to decorate a plain tote is the perfect way to personalize your own bag or a bag for a friend, teacher, colleague or family member. We designed this floral, fruity pattern with the teachers in mind – Teacher Appreciation Day is coming up on May 5th – but it’s so lovely that we made a couple for ourselves as well. You may recognize the design from our cute little Teacher Appreciation Thank You cards in Sunday’s post. Both colorways were created using our Cricut Explore cutting machine. If you’re a beginner, or just prefer the one color pattern then simply print the SVG file, trim the design to fit your bag and iron on in place using a hot iron for 5 or 6 minutes. If you’re feeling more adventurous and want to have a go at layering different colors of iron-on vinyl then you’ll find the second SVG file has three layers for the fruit pattern including white for the stripes. Choose your main color – ours is the red – and start with that. Iron it in place then layer on your other colors one after the other, pressing for 5 to 6 minutes each time. I like to place a tea towel over the design at the end and give it one final press for a couple of minutes. It took us about an hour to achieve but I think you’ll agree it produces a striking result. Your personalized tote bag can be washed at a cool temperature to keep it looking fresh and fancy for years to come! Enjoy ~ Lia

What size tote bag did you use and where did you get them?
This was a 15×15 cotton, lightweight canvas tote bag. We got them on Amazon several years ago but they’re no longer in stock.
Lia, Please send these(Tote Bag Design for a Teacher, or Yourself) as a JPG, thanks!

Sorry, we didn’t make this as a jpeg. It is one of those designs we felt would be too intricate to look good cut by hand.
Thanks, Lia, for creating and sharing this fun file!! I really appreciate the instructions too!!
