We’ve been feeling a bit tropical in the studio as we patiently wait for summer to come around. We recently posted our aloha greeting cards and matching mahalo greeting cards for your summer well-wishes and thank yous. If you are planning a summer barbecue or tropical luau, this tropical leaf paper garland is perfect for the occasion!
To make this paper garland, start by gathering your papers. We used metallic text weight paper for the little white blooms, and Paper Source text weight paper in Peacock, Pool, and Clover for the leaves (see Shop this Project below). Choose this cool tropical color scheme, or go for a brighter color scheme with corals and yellows depending on your specific event decor! Once you have decided on your color scheme, download the leaf and flower templates below. Use the SVG with a cutting machine or the PDF for cutting by hand. If you are cutting by hand, you can print the templates directly onto the paper and cut them from there. So easy! After you have all of your pieces trimmed, string them together with a piece of twine. To do this, we simply used an embroidery needle to poke small holes into the stems of the leaves and thread the twine through. We then glued the flower blooms onto the twine, but you can also use the same threading technique as the leaves.
This tropical paper garland would be perfect for decorating a summer gathering or luau. Make the paper garland, or use the leaf and flower cut-outs to sprinkle around your table setting! If you are hosting your own luau, be sure to check out our printable luau invitations, and then take a look at our cute paper pineapples as you decide on your decor. We even have tropical paper leis for you to make and hand out to your guests! If you ever have a suggestion for crafts or projects you would like to see in the future, feel free to share them with me and the team by sending them into hello@liagriffith.com. Don’t forget to also share your photos of your creations with me too! I’d love to see what you are up to 🙂 ~ Lia

Hi Lia,
I opened the pdf file and found that the leaves and the flower are on the same page. How can I separate them to print separately on different color papers (flowers on white, leaves on clover…)?
Hi Oxana! For the PDF versions we typically cut each individual piece and trace them out onto different sheets if we want to use them for different colors! You can separate the individual sheets if you’re willing to get a little creative with your software! That would involve taking screen shots/clippings and placing them into another file to duplicate them onto one sheet. We hope this helps answer your question!
Hello,
What cutting mat size do I need to cut out these leaves at the size they are here in the photo? Would a 12×12 mat be large enough or would I need a longer mat? Thanks so much!
We used a 12×12 mat for these leaves 🙂
Lia,
I love everything you do. I’m very interested in the Palm tree too. If I become a member, and only do the monthly….will I be able to get the information on the palm leaves and tree. Or do I have to do the yearly membership? I could do that if I paid only monthly for it…not the whole year for $99.00
Thank you
Thank you Kay, that means a lot! Monthly AND annual members have access to all our patterns and downloads, so you’d get everything you need for that project.
I am so excited to make all of these. Thank you Lia!
You’re so welcome 🙂
Aloha, this is very pretty – any insight as to the length the garland comes out to. Thanks so much!
Thank you! The garland pictured is about 4′ long.
I followed the link to purchase the paper but wasn’t sure exactly what colors you used for the leaves??
Peacock, Pool, and Clover 🙂
OMG!! Stunning! You are the BEST Lia!! I can’t wait to make them. I am totally obsessed! I have a Cuban/Tropical Birthday Theme party for my dad coming up and this project must be done ASAP! and a Luau Meet & Greet for our neighborhood using all your Luau Goodies!! I am so excited!! Thank you!!
That sounds like a great birthday! Happy Birthday dad!!!
Thanks, they are beautiful
You’re so welcome!
Beautiful 🙂
Thanks Janet!
Lia, it was so exciting seeing you on Home and Family yesterday. It’s always nice to see the face on the blogs we’re always reading and following. The crepe paper flowers were really nice and seeing you make them made it easier to follow how to make them. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Sharon! We are going to be doing a video tutorial for each of our new crepe flowers.
