Become a MemberI am planning an end-of-good weather soirée at my house in a few weeks and wanted to give my back yard a little makeover. My modern style Ikea table and chairs that I bought I few years ago had a lovely frosted glass top that did not make it in my last move. This gave me the perfect opportunity to add a splash of color not only by adding these pretty Ikat cushions to the chairs, but using them as inspiration for painting the table top with a matching Ikat stripe. The first thing I did was run down to The Home Depot to have them cut the board that fit perfectly into the space on the table. Love that they can do that! I then picked out matching Behr® Paint colors in Dragon Fire orange, two tones of pink – Hot Pink and Fuchsia Kiss, and Stealth Jet charcoal grey and grabbed a few rolls of my favorite ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape for Delicate Surfaces with Advanced Edge-Lock™ Paint Line Protector 2080EL. After sanding the surface, I painted the wood in one of the orange colors. Once dry it was a fun project to add the ScotchBlue™ Painter’s Tape leaving a wide, then medium and finally thin gap between each strip. The tape made it easy to fill the gaps in with the dark grey and two tones of pink paint. After the paint dried, I removed the painter’s tape to reveal perfect stripes and the orange base. Now it was time to add the Ikat! With a small craft brush, I zig-zagged the dark gray and white paint across each of the seams to match the pattern of the pillow fabric. The results are bright and fun, perfect for my upcoming fiesta! Here is a little preview of my upcoming party. Cheers! ~ Lia

When I grow up, I want to be you. Unfortunately, I think I’m a little late getting started (soon to be 52).
You are so funny! I am not that far behind you, girl!

Breathtaking, Lia! It took my breath away, and I love how you simplified Ikat to make it doable for all of us. And, that hanging piece, you must share, it’s sensational and the perfect topper for your lovely tableau.
Thank you. I love my new table, so much more festive than the old one. Here is a link for the hanging pinata. Enjoy:) https://liagriffith.com/make-a-paper-flower-pinata/
