Watercolor paper is such a fun and versatile material to work with — especially in a project like this. Note that you can also use cardstock paper for this project, and the heavier the paper the better. Each little fold, each tiny cut, slowly brings a miniature world to life in your hands. And while we’ve chosen to leave our paper a bright, gleaming white — we encourage you to make this village your own. Add gold touches for a festive glow or dust the rooftops with a hint of glittery “frost.” Build one little cottage to brighten a windowsill, or create a whole row of homes for your mantel, and let them sparkle under twinkle lights. What in heavens name am I doing wrong! Help, I am brand new to cricut. I have watched this video a million times. The first group scores just fine, when I go to cut it cuts something completely different (a house and half the trees!)
I have set it up in groups that will cut on one piece of paper each. So, you will need to first select the score, then attach that score to the cut layer (the ones in that group). Then, when you start to use the Cricut, you score first as prompted, then change the blade and cut without removing the paper from the machine. As for the trees, I am guessing that they were cut in half because the score lines were not selected for those two pages. Double check and let me know if it is working for you now.
Thanks Lia! I was doing something stupid (this is my first Cricut project). I wan’t checking the proper material size ;/ figured it out and the project turned out beautifully! Thankfully I was using card stock I had on hand and not the beautiful watercolor paper.

What is the weight of the watercolor paper you are using for the houses? I have 140 lb/300 g/m2 watercolor paper on hand. Will that work?
We use 110lb, but I think the 140 will be beautiful. Test cut it first, though, to make sure you can cut all the way through.
The 140 lbs paper worked beautifully! The Cricut Maker even had a setting to cut this paper. I just posted a picture on Crafters with the felt trees I made last year.

If it helps, I’ve used my Cricut Maker (OG) to cut 140# watercolor paper and gotten very good results with the Posterboard setting, a sharp, clean Premium blade and a clean, standard cutting mat.

That seems so odd since the SVG is in the same folder (and download) as the tutorial and PDF template. Do you see three items in your folder?

Hi Sharon! Hmmmm. There are two sides for each house in the template. This project uses 6 sheets of the 8.5×11 paper and the second side is with the second sheet.
I need the SVG, I accidentally deleted it and can’t download it. I’m so sorry, it has been a really rough week with my husband in the hospital. I would so appreciate it if you could help me out.

When I go to make my project after attaching score lines it shows only one mat, mat 9, on pink with just a few lines. Have I missed something? I thought when I attached all the score lines would happen as I do each mat.
You will need to attach each subgroup individually to keep the six cuts/scores.

Hello Rakel. Did you attach each of the house groups to their score lines? This should keep the cuts and scores together. Try that and let me know if it works. I wish we could set it up for you on our end, but the software does not allow us to.
There is an extra cut in the upper left window on the bay window house. I can’t seem to isolate the cut to remove it. Please help.
The round window? I think I found it and fixed it.

When I uploaded the svg file to my Cricut Maker it seems to be reading the “scores” as “cuts” Is there a way to fix this or a resource in the membership that can help?

Am I supposed to alter the bay windows so that they fit inside? I’m assuming the side tabs take a valley fold and are glued inside so the seams are hidden and .the window pops out, but I cannot get it to fit no matter what I do! I am super excited to finish my Putz Glitter House Village!

To assemble the trees you simply take one tree with a slit at the top and one tree with a slit at the bottom and slide the two together 🙂

How do you get the enlargement to print?? I enlarge it, but when it prints, it is still small. I’ve tried enlarging them 140%, 170%, and 200%, but it still prints out small. If anyone knows, please inform me. Thanks.

I made this village, probably around 20 years ago, give or take a year and they are JUST now getting tired looking! I’m so excited to find this website and the plans. I plan on reviving the houses that I have and making some new ones (the Church fell completely apart this year) and then I am going to make my sisters and my mother, villages because they have always loved my village and I think it would make a great gift! These were SO much fun to make, I remember. They are so much more portable and storable than the porcelain village houses that you can buy everwhere and so unique. I highly recommed these, if you are crafty and enjoy this kind of thing. One question I have, does anyone know what weight chipboard to use? I don’t remember and it doesn’t say it here. Thanks

So sorry Twila, the village is only available as a printable pattern. I cut everything by hand before I got a cutting machine, so it’s certainly possible to make these with scissors & an exacto knife!
I can’t seem to find the ‘directions’ on how to construct, once the templates are cut . . . not sure I used the right paper either. Can you direct me? I love these as a new take on the old Putz houses!

hi…the svg is coming into design space as though it is ‘open’…in other words, the lines are all there, but the entire image is checkerboarded…any ideas?

I’m so having trouble with glitter paper. Is there a secret? Applicate any idea’s and help, a little weary of watching youtube videos with no avail. Hey do you think I’m not holding my mouth far enough to the right?
Ha! Some glitter paper needs to be cut on a different setting, so you should play around with some test cuts if you can (try a notch or two past Cardstock). Our favorite glitter paper is “glitzy” found at JoAnn stores, it doesn’t flake off and is very easy to cut!
I think these will be excellent to put in your room for Chrismas! They fit in with the theme of Christmas perfectly!

This is way too confusing, so beautiful! But I don’t understand about cut lines and score lines. I just don’t. Guess this project is not for me. I always need instructions and there are none included. 🙁

Hi, total newbie here. Is there some place i can get instructions on how to do this on my new Cricut Explore Air. I’ve been following your designs for a while and love them so i’ve just subscribed. I don’t understand the previous question about saving cut lines to fold lines to cut lines and then grouping – what is that all about? I’ve downloaded the file, changed my material size to A4, loaded the scoring pen but the machine doesn’t know to score. Any pointers would be appreciated!
Congratulations on your new Cricut!! Under “Options”, you have to designate certain lines to be score lines and certain lines to be cut lines. I would say that this is a better question for Cricut customer service. I also know that there are some helpful YouTube video tutorials that are floating around…good luck!!

This is the cutest project and can’t wait to make it, but I need help. 🙂
I have the Cricut Explore machine. I loaded the SVG file and uploaded to the Design Space. I then transferred the file onto the Design Space, then I ungroup the whole project and saved each fold as a “cut” line then I change it to a “fold” line. Afterwards, I highlighted all the images and attached them together. However when I went to print, it is still showing a page where there is just fold lines. I can’t figure out if I should just upload the images and just press “go” or am I thinking too much into it and shouldn’t be messing with the “cut” or “fold” function? Thank you for your help.
Make sure you group all the cut lines and the score lines together and it should work! 🙂
