Spring in Bloom Paper Lanterns
Our winter paper lanterns were super popular back in November so with Chinese New Year upon us next week (Thursday 19th!) I was inspired to design a fresh paper lantern for the occasion. In China the New Year celebration is also known as the Spring Festival so it seemed perfect to include a delicate Spring blossom in our design. These elegant decorations are not only perfect for next Thursday’s celebrations but for weddings, spring parties, bridal or baby showers, birthday parties or just to brighten up a rainy Sunday brunch. We used white cardstock which we love for its classic simplicity, but the design works just as well with metallic papers in any color. There are some really beautiful pastel papers available in craft stores and online at the moment which we think would look just stunning. You will also need white vellum paper for the windows and battery tea lights to pop inside your finished lanterns. For those of you with a cutting machine you will find the SVG cut file below. The lantern can also be hand cut with a craft knife so I have included a printable PDF template as well.

My cricut is making cuts instead of score lines?
After you have uploaded the SVG file, you have to change the CUT lines to SCORE in Design Space.
Bonjour,
Cordialement
Cathy
Hi Cathy– our files work with Silhouette Cameo but need to be converted to .studio files first, which you can do with the designer software.
Hi there,
Just wondering if you used anything to put where the cutouts are on each side of the lantern. In the picture it kind of looks like something is there? Looking to use there as part of my centrepieces for my wedding. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thank you
We cut out pieces of vellum paper and stuck it on the inside of the lantern with double-sided tape!
Hello. I don’t wish to be a member but I’m very interested in your spring lantern. I am to be married in 2 weeks and would love to use this lantern as centerpieces. is there a way I can purchase this svg?
Thanks for the comment! I’m sorry but we don’t sell our patterns individually. You can always become a member and have access to hundreds of patterns and templates, and cancel your membership at any time.
Bonjour Lia,
Je viens d’acheter Cricut explore air et j’essaie de faire la lanterne mais je suis incapable de l’envoyer à cricut. Pouvez-vous m’aider? Que dois-je faire?
Merci
Lucie
You should be able to download the SVG file to your desktop and then upload the file directly to your Design Space! Also make sure to “un-zip” the file before you upload it. Some computers automatically do this and some do not. Best of luck!! I would also suggest reaching out to Cricut’s customer support if you have more Cricut questions to help you get acquainted with your new machine 🙂
Merci Lia. J’ai réussi à faire la lanterne. Elle est superbe.
J’aimerais beaucoup obtenir du papier que vous utilisez pour les fleurs, est-il possible d’en trouver au Canada?
J’aime vos créations,elle sont magnifiques!
I have a Cricut expression2. Can this file be sent to my cricut account and then used from there?
Unfortunately it is a completely different machine and only designs through Cricut will work. We will be having more Explore giveaways coming up so make sure and enter!
Your crafts are such inspiration. I have been following you and I just became a member!!
Thank you so much for your sweet comment!! So glad to hear you are enjoying the site 🙂
I don’t quite understand how this works…
My SIL has a Cri-cut machine that I can use, but how do I get the download from my computer onto her Cri-Cut machine?
Do I need to buy a special cartridge?
I would appreciate any help for this “newbie”!
P.S. Your designs are beautiful!
If she has a Cricut Explore, you can simply download and save the file, and then send it over to her so she can upload it into her Design Space. If she has a Cricut Expression, unfortunately she won’t have the ability to upload files onto the machine. Best of luck!
hello! I love everything here! You will be on my wedding!!! 😉
Lia, I just cut the lantern at my silhouette, just tell me something, what about its base? No base underneath? Just the walls? Thank you so much and please keep sharing your ideas, I love those!!! Kisses!!!
Hi Fernanda! There is no base for this lantern. Just fold the sides and place it on your table and it is ready to go! Thank you for your kind words 🙂
hi lia actually i have downloaded this template long back before but now when iam trying to download it its showing that this download requires a membership why so?why you are costing money for downloading?and do reply me soon
Unfortunately a few months ago we did have to make some changes in our business to continue crafting. You can read about it here: https://liagriffith.com/confessions-of-a-blogger-part-2/
I had four of these on every table at my wedding, along with the matching table numbers! They were beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing!!
Congratulations on your marriage! I am so happy you liked these!
Hello Lia, the Spring in Bloom Paper Lantern is soooooo beautiful. I’d love to have it in the Silhouette Studio format if possible please. Many thanks and kind regards
Maria
You just need the designer edition for Silhouette to use it:-)
Hi, im trying to download the paper lanterns (spring) but its not letting me. Is there another way i can print them out?
That is strange, have you tried using a different internet browser?
Yes, i figure it out already. Thank you for replying. ?
Hi Lisa! I love this site! By the way, what size of paper did you use to make your lanterns? I was wondering that if I print on A4 will there be enough space to put a tealight in at the base? Thanks!
We used 8 1/2×11″ size paper which is a little smaller than an A4 paper. Happy craftin!
I’m making these for my college graduation party this weekend. I’m excited to make these, but is there a place where I can find step-by-step instructions on how to make this using the PDF file? Also, will the outline of the lanterns show up on black cardstock? If not, how should I go about doing so?
Thanks for such a cute idea for my centerpieces!
The outline will not show up on black cardstock. You could cut a template to use as a template to draw on black carstock or get a personal cutting machine. There are no step-by-step instructions, there are four indicators on where to fold the paper to make it into a box like shape. Congratulations on your college graduation!
Hola!!! Me encanto este posto pero no puedo descargar los patrones para poder hacerlo! Me los podrias mandar con otro formato? Gracias!
Make sure you are downloading the pdf not the svg file. Those are the only two formats I have. If you don’t have Adobe you can download the free Adobe Reader version.
Hi Lia,
I stumbled upon your site while searching for ideas for my upcoming wedding. Thanks to you, I am the proud new owner of a Cricut machine and look forward to DIY-ing some projects. I’m new to crafting (two months ago I had never heard of a Cricut) and I feel lost looking at all the paper on paper-papers.com.
I was thinking of using these lanterns as table numbers. Can I print on vellum or will it smudge off? Also, did you use transparent or non-transparent vellum paper?
As for the white card stock, does the weight matter? I’m not familiar with paper weight, so I’m not sure which paper is too thick/too flimsy.
Thank you,
Stacie
Yes you can print on vellum, however you will need a laser printer to print on it. We used transparent vellum, although I am not sure I understand your question. For cardstock the weight doesn’t really matter, for flowers I always use text weight. Congrats on your upcoming wedding! Would love to see pictures!!
Magnifique lanterne. J’adore le découpage mais n’en fait pas assez souvent. Merci du partage.
Merci;-)
Didn’t get chance to make the winter lanterns but did print them out, won’t be in a craft show this year so close to holidays so will get them done.
Thank you so much for sharing your exquisite projects.
Think I misspoke about the svg file for Scandinavian images, I meant pdf file since I don’t have one of those wonderful machines. Just not in our budget. Thanks for sharing what you have. Will all projects be featured now to use the Cricut? Just wondering. Happy life LIa
Hi Jane! I love those lanterns, have made one for every season now:-) The Scandinavian projects were done exclusively for Cricut so there is no pdf for that project. I include a pdf with the majority of my projects so hopefully you will find something else you like:-)
I love your lanterns, I cut the winter one at Christmas time. hat being said-I imported this lantern into Design Space & notice the score lines are way above the actual lanter. I can ungroup & move them but am worried I will pt them in the wrong place, or not in the exact place. Thanks for your nice files.
Cricut was having some software issues with that. We noticed it too. It may be fixed now so try again and good job finding the workaround. That is what we were having to do.
These are gorgeous. I’m going to make some of these! 🙂 Have a great day!
Enjoy!
Love your paper lanterns and your layout is so beautiful,Thank you for sharing
Thank you!
Einfach nur wunderschön

hello.very very nice.
good luck.
Thank you so much!
Can you use a cricut to make these? If not what do you use to make them?
Yes I did cut it on my Cricut. The SVG file is at the bottom of the post.
I love your designs! Is there a way to enlarge the lanterns? My daughter is getting married and I’d like to make them about 3″ square. Thank you!!
Yes, you can enlarge them in Design Space or in your cutting machine software. If you are hand cutting, them enlarge the template when you print. Make sure and send photos when you are done! 😉
thank you so much
Your lantern is fabulous
Thank you. Enjoy!!
Sooooooo nice! Thank you.
You are welcome, I am glad you liked them. They have quickly become a favorite of mine:-)
So dainty and beautiful! I’ll use these to decorate my Passover Sedar table along with the crepe paper peonies. Thank you for the great ideas!
You are welcome! I really enjoy hearing how my readers use their craft, thanks for sharing!!
Merci beaucoup !
C’est magnifique !
Merci;-) Enjoy!
Just to let you know that it worked for me this time and I was able to open the file. Not sure why it wouldn’t work last night.
Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful creations with us, Lia. Your talents are amazing.
Thank you for letting me know, I am happy it worked out!!
Thank you Lia for the beautiful lantern pattern. A good friend of mine and co-worker is from Miami, but her parents were born in China. I’ll have to make her one (or 2) of these since she doesn’t have a Cricut or silhouette and I know she’ll love it/them!!
That is so thoughtful of you!!
These lanterns are gorgeous! Thank you for sharing
Thank you so much:-)
Sooooooo nice! Love it! Thank you so much
Thank you so much!Enjoy!
Hi Lia
Just to let you know it was my mistake I was uploading an image instead of a vecta it works fine as you said
Thanks a lot
Heulwen
Great!!
Thank you for the pretty little lantern SVG ! In response to Rhandi D’s comment, the Silhouette Cameo will open SVG files (only) if you have the Silhouette Designer Edition installed. You can purchase it directly from the Silhouette Corporation or look elsewhere to sometimes find it a little cheaper. If you have just the basic program that came with the machine, you can’t open SVG files. I was able to open yout SVG lantern file just fine !
Thank you!
I love these lanterns and would love to be able to use them at a wedding shower this spring. I downloaded the file and tried to open it in Silouhette but it says that the file is not supported. Is there any advice that you can give me. I have had the same problem with other files that I have downloaded. I don’t know what I am doing wrong.
I don’t have a Silhouette any longer so I cannot trouble shoot:( Have you contacted their customer service department and asked them? Silhouette do support SVG files.
Thanks Lia for sharing all beautiful hand mades. they are wonderful.
Thank you!
Thank you for this beautiful lantern pattern! This post was a breath of fresh air on a cold wintery day-thank you!
I am glad to hear that, I am ready for Spring:-)
Hi Lia
Thank you for your Lanterns I love them. I am having trouble trying to upload them, it say it doesn’t support the file, I am obviously doing something wrong, can you help I have also tried on the mac and it says the same thing
Thanks alot
Heulwen
Hmm… I can open both. Are you using the the PDF or the SVG (in Cricut or Silhouette?)
This one is fantastic Lia. You have wowed us as always. Just wondering how creative one can get with papers 🙂
I love a challenge 🙂
Merci beaucoup
You are welcome:-)
Thank you for sharing this wonderful project.
Your table looks lovely.
Thank you, that table is the perfect example of DIY on a shoestring budget. Other than the china (which I already had) all the flowers are DIY.
Thank you for this pretty lantern !
You are welcome:-)
love every project you share! so talented. Thank you!
Thank you for your sweet comment!
magnifique, merci
Thank you so much! I do have to say they turned out really nice, I am very pleased:-)
Thank you so much for the PDF your kindness is greatly appreciated for those of us who can’t afford the cutting machine. I am going to make these for a small retirement party I’m planning this summer for my hubby. I want the party to go into the evening and the lanterns will look so pretty. Thank you again so much.
Sounds like a wonderful party!!
Lia…You just brightened my day as things were getting a little hectic around here. Thank You once again for the beautiful file to cut and admire. You are the greatest…Marty
Thank you so much for your sweet comment!! Happy that I can brighten your day, your comment brighten mine:-)
These are gorgeous!
I wish the folks at Cricut knew that pretty much the only reason I bought an Explore is because of your projects. Once you do one you just can’t stop! 🙂
Thank you, as always, for sharing.
Thank you so much, that means a lot to me!!
I can’t wait to make these! Thank you for sharing your talents with us. As always, elegant simplicity married to high style — another classic project. Hurray for you!
Your comment brightened up a rainy Portland day. Thank you!!
