Cardstock & Wooden Bead Honeycomb Ornaments
A Honeycomb Holiday
It’s absolutely safe to say we’re a little ornament-obsessed here at Lia Griffith. They are such a fun and functional excuse to haul out the crafting supplies and create a little bit of joy. And so, we’re truly excited to share these Cardstock & Wooden Bead Honeycomb Ornaments with you this month. Chic and stylish, these ornaments will definitely help upgrade your holiday decor this season.

We have created a new pattern for these honeycomb ornaments to allow for more honeycomb and the 60 layers of paper make them very sturdy to last many many years. As with all of our honeycomb projects, we definitely recommend using a cutting machine for both precision and speed. However, if you’d prefer to cut your pieces by hand — we’ve got you covered! Just download the PDF version of our template to get started! If you love honeycomb paper craft, then be sure to check out the rest of our honeycomb collection. Be sure to check out our post on How to Make an Embroidery Floss Tassel to complete this ornament.
While we genuinely adore the bright festive colors of the holiday season, we wanted these Cardstock & Wooden Bead Honeycomb Ornaments to evoke the serene beauty of the season. Though we chose our cardstock in cool blue, white, and gray tones — don’t feel those are your only options. As always feel free to customize as you see fit.
In addition to a more subdued color palette, we also wanted to stick with natural fibers and colors to embellish these beautiful ornaments. The combination of our cotton embroidery floss, felt balls and wooden beads really tie this piece together. We love the fusion of textures and tones, which results in a truly unique ornament for your tree.
One of our favorite things about ornaments is their fabulous potential for gifting. While, of course, it makes sense to use them in your own decorations, there’s something so special about crafting with the intention of spreading joy. Whip these up for an office gift exchange or “just because.”
Once your honeycomb ornaments are complete, we’d love to see the magic you’ve crafted! Share your creations in our vibrant crafters’ community or tag us on Instagram using #MadeWithLia.

Instead of glueing all these layers together, have you ever tried to fix them with your sewing machine? All layers correctly placed on top of each other, one row of long stitches or basting stitches on the fold, a stronger thread, an old/ used 90 – 100 size needle for Jeans fabric (better to use an old one for paper than a new one for fabrics). Both threads knotted at their ends and that’s it. Leave the thread ends longer, so can use them on the top as a hanger and at the bottom to fix the tassels.
I have done the sewing method with lighter paper. If you can get that many layers through the sewing machine, then yes!
Wow, I’m so excited to make these! 🤩🎄
Share photos!! 🙂
How many pieces of paper does one ornament need?
3 for the smaller two, and 4 for the largest.
Thank you!!
Once file is uploaded to Design Space, do some cut lines need to be changed to score lines? Also, do the images need to be ungrouped attached in smaller groups?
Yes, you will need to change the score lines to score. Here is a full Skill Course we made to help! https://liagriffith.com/craft-academy/a-crafters-guide-to-the-cricut-maker/
Why do I get the message that Cricut can’t cut the files because it is too large
If you hide the designer notes, that message will go away.
Will the download for the directions be available soon? Cannot wait to make these three to go along with the other 3 ornaments that I made last year! Not sure how to handle those extra 4 “cut” lines on the bottom svg ornament. Thank you for making more honeycomb ornaments. I love them!
Hi Shirl, I just double checked and everything is in the one download. They are in the right column now, in case you have not seen our new post style. 🙂
Thanks!
