While thinking of which projects to make for our “Spring Blooms” craft summit, it was clear we needed to add a peony. The peony is probably my favorite flower, and we have made many different versions over the last 10 years! So this month we are introducing a new variety — a crepe paper abalone pearl peony.
This particular flower is known for its golden center and pink bowl-shaped blooms with petals that curve inward. As with all of our peonies, this crepe paper abalone pearly peony is a stunning flower that stands out on its own in a vase or when added to a larger arrangement as the focal point. You will learn how to make these beautiful big blooms during the workshop as well as the smaller buds and greenery.
Crafting tips: We love adding a bit of color to the leaves. Any shade of red, brown, or dark magenta PanPastel will work, so use what you have.

Hello! In the end of the video I saw that wonderful bouquet made of double hibiscus, pincushion protea and felt anthurium (I’ve already found the tutorials). There were also some orange and pink flowers that you did not mention. What is their name? Did you make a tutorial for those, too? Thank you so much! Caterina
Yes! Those are the Mokara orchids! https://liagriffith.com/crepe-paper-mokara-orchid/
Are you taking the arrangement class this round? If not we are offering it again in November. It is getting rave reviews!
I noticed the SVG file for the small petals differs from the PDF. The SVG has 2 “heart” shaped small petals (versus 3 recommended on the PDF), 4 of the “wavy” edged (versus 3 recommended on the PDF) and 2 of the “smooth” edged on the SVG (versus 3 recommended on the PDF). Is that just to simplify it for those cutting by hand?
Hi Kat, the SVG and PDF should match so thank you for pointing this out we will update this ASAP. However the petal count is correct in the PDF and SVG the number of each shape just varies which is okay! Your flower will still look amazing if you have already cut. 🙂
I hated missing this live – but just got to catch up on the tutorial – can’t wait to work on these beautiful flowers ….. and the next one… hibiscus … now that one looks like it is going to be a favourite of mine….I know patience is a virtue… but this time around I have none!! 🙂
Haha! Well, I will promise you that it will be worth it in the end. 🙂
The written instructions need a bit of proofreading. 😉 Not quite sure what “assing” the panpastel means – must be a tutorial I missed! lol
Oh goodness haha! I think she meant adding 🙂 I will have her fix the typo, thanks!
I have everything but the egg shaped balls…will round work okay?
Yes, you can use the round ones.
I’m so excited. 46 more minutes 😁
Only 5 to go!!
Peonies are my favorite, too, and those buds are truly adorable. I’m guessing we’ll need one 30mm ball per bud, and six 12 mm eggs per bloom? Thanks.
You will need one 30mm ball per bud and five 12mm eggs per flower. 🙂
How is the marker used? Would Blick Studio Bubblegum Pink work as a suitable alternative, which I have used on one of your previous projects? I have everything else I need for this project on hand and do not want to buy and have a single marker shipped. Thanks for your help!
I think that will be a great alternative. Yes! Use what you have on hand!! 🙂
