Have I said it before? Fall is my favorite time of year. I think a lot of you feel the same way too. One of the fall flowers that comes to mind when I am ready to add some fall flair to my decor is the simple yet glorious mum. For me a paper mum immediately calls for gorgeous crepe paper in in tones of plum, red and orange.
Crepe Paper Flowers
Today, I am going to show you how to make paper flowers with this simple crepe paper technique. You can find the crepe paper here. I just love the way the crepe adds a rustic texture to the flowers. Since mums come in so many colors you can pick your own favorite fall colors for these mums. I also used three different colors of green for the leaves, but you can choose one if you want to keep it simple.
The Pattern
At the end of the post, you can download the PDF of the pattern for these flowers and once you have collected your materials, just follow the step-by-step tutorial below. Whether you make a single stem or a dozen, these lush fall blooms will make a beautiful eye-catching fall display. Enjoy! ~ Lia

Hi Lia,
Would you recommend your heavy or fine crepe paper for these. I’ve learned the hard way that they are not always interchangeable. =)
Hi Jenica! This post was from before we had our own line of crepe paper, but we do have some more recent posts that use both the heavy crepe paper and the extra fine crepe paper. For this particular pattern the heavy crepe paper would be the closest. Here’s the more recent posts if you would like to reference them!

Crepe Paper Mums – Extra Fine
We hope this helps!
I especially love Fall too! These look so beautiful, and not too hard to make, lovely project!
Thanks so much, Lori!
Hi, what gauge is the wire for the flowers that you use? Sometimes in other flower titorials you use a foam ball, what size is taht one too. I need to buy everything oevr the internet and its difficult to estimate from a picture only
Hi Alina, I use both 18 and 20 gauge wires, and 1/2″ foam balls 🙂
Hi LÃa!! These flowers are so beautiful!!! Could you tell me which crepe paper colour did you used in te tutorial? I have to make some greek inspired centrepieces and i was thinking about making some bouganvillea, and I thinking that’s the perfect colour. Do you have any tutorials about this flowers? Thank you very much!!!
So happy to hear you like these flowers! I honestly do not remember what the color is called for the red crepe paper…but I do know that it is Carte Fini brand, so I would browse their red section and pick out the one that you like 🙂 I do not have any bougainvillea templates, but that is a great suggestion for a future project. Best of luck on your centerpieces!!
the flowers are lovely I will be making some of them
Hope you have fun making them. Please share pictures of your creations with us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/liagriffith.hyl
I love your idea of how to make feathers. On January 14, 2014, Susan said she was going to make an eagle for her son’s Eagle Scout Court of Honor. My grandson is about to receive his Eagle Scout and I would like to do something similar.
At first I thought about using crepe paper for the texture but decided it would be difficult to write on. I am thinking of using white tissue paper and chalking the edges in brown. What do you think of this?
Do you have a pattern for an eagle head that you can share with me?
You are so creative and I love reading about all your ideas on Pinterest!
Thank you for all your help!
Jean
Hello! I think you grandson is going to love it! Unfortunately I have not made an Eagle yet so Id on’t have a pattern for you. Would love to see pictures when you are done! Thank you for your support:)
They are so beautiful! 🙂
Thank you, I love Mums!

Beautiful!… Also this might seem like a strange question, but what hot glue gun do you use? It looks like it has a very nice fine nib..
Hi. I love this one because of the fine tip. Here is a link to it on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001689XCQ/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=211189&creative=373489&creativeASIN=B001689XCQ&link_code=as3&tag=liagrihanyoul-20&linkId=BIUYSP4U27XAJA2N
