Become a MemberLooking for some spring decor to craft for your home? These DIY pussy willow branches are simple in their design but quite striking once you arrange a few of them in a vase to display. Plus they are easy to make!
Since we are combining roving wool with cotton spun paper eggs, there is no template to cut for this project. Just gather your tools and materials below, then follow our 8-step tutorial.
Branch out this spring
Unlike the other branches we have made for spring, our DIY pussy willow branches do not have any paper blooms on them. You could always add little flower buds on your branches if you would like, but we prefer to keep ours simple. If you are joining our Member Make workshop this month, we will be using three of these branches to make a spring wreath with small blossoms.
Skill level: Beginner. This is an easy project, but it can be time-consuming depending on how many pussy willow branches you want to make (each branch takes about an hour to craft).
Crafting tips: When wrapping your cotton spun eggs, it’s okay if the egg is still visible. You just need enough wool to make it look fuzzy! Also, your branches can vary in length — we varied ours between 12–18 inches. And you can use however many eggs you want per branch. For reference, we used between 10 and 15 eggs per 18-inch stem.

Thank you for your help! I look forward to this member make!!
I noticed that they were out of stock too! I can’t find them anywhere, and even if I wanted to use foam, they don’t come that small. If I was to use the ball shape, would it be smaller? Maybe 8mm, since 12mm is the height, not the width? Please let me know!
Smile Mercantile has 8mm cotton spun balls in stock, those will also work! https://www.smilemercantile.com/products/spun-cotton-balls?variant=40844791815. It also looks like Spunnys still has a few 10mm left on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/listing/894351231/100-x-o-10-mm-spun-cotton-balls-for-diy?ref=shop_home_active_1&frs=1&crt=1&variation0=1796509675
Thanks for the quick response!
Thanks!
Spun cotton eggs are not available anywhere, do you think I could use the small balls and shape the roving wool to create a better form? Hate to miss out on this cute spring project. Guess I’ll just give it a try when my wool arrives, unless there are other suggestions.
We didn’t anticipate them selling out so quick! Yes, we recommend using cotton spun balls. We will be showing how to use the ball shape during our Member Make on March 12th! https://liagriffith.com/pussy-willow-wreath/
