These Felt Chinese Lanterns are a great project for crafters of all levels — especially our beginners. We've chosen our vibrant wool blend felt in shades of orange, poppy, and fern to mirror the natural colors of the Physalis alkekengi plant. Our Felt Chinese Lanterns are inspired by the beautiful Physalis alkekengi plant, commonly known as the Chinese Lantern. In nature, these plants are a favorite for fall decorating, often used in dried arrangements to bring a pop of orange to the season's palette.
The Physalis alkekengi's lantern-shaped husks have a unique charm, resembling delicate little lanterns or gourds. Inside each husk, a tiny berry sits, reminiscent of a small tomato — a surprising discovery when the calyx dries up and reveals its hidden treasure at the end of the season.
To craft your own Felt Chinese Lanterns, we recommend a few items to make the process easier. For instance, a low-temp hot glue gun is perfect for attaching your lantern heads to the stem of your plant, while floral wire will help your lanterns maintain their delicate shape and structure. Once you've finished crafting, you'll have a set of charming felt lanterns you can display in a vase or as part of a festive fall centerpiece.

Back to the TopI put some twigs of dried chinese lanterns (from my garden) into an empty wine bottle and added some twigs of Callicarpa xxx – those with purple coloured berries. The bunch in my bath room looks great although it is from last year. Actually my chinese lanterns git their color but the Callicarpa berries are still green 🙂
