Because this Felt Lime project is a great way to practice simple three-dimensional construction techniques, it's great for for beginner-to-intermediate makers. To add texture and realistic dimension to your creation, you'll stitch both whole and sliced limes. For the halved limes, we tucked a thin piece of cardboard — a recycled cereal box, for example — inside the felt to create the crisp, clean edge of a freshly cut piece of citrus. Oh, and remember, as you stitch, take your time with the curved seams to keep your lime nice and smooth.
High-quality wool-blend felt gives your lime a soft texture while holding its shape beautifully, and a good pair of detail scissors makes trimming the smaller citrus segments much easier. These simple tools help each slice look crisp, clean, and ready for display. When everything is sewn and stuffed, roll each lime gently between your palms or across your work surface to soften any lumps and help it settle into a naturally rounded shape. By and large, it's small finishing touches like these that make the biggest difference.
Once you've finished a few Felt Limes, by all means, keep the citrus collection growing! Pair them with our Felt Lemons and Felt Oranges to stock a colorful produce stand, fill a market basket, or create a fun alternative to a traditional fruit bowl as a centerpiece. Mixing different citrus fruits also adds wonderful variety while giving little shoppers plenty of colorful choices.
When your citrus harvest is complete, we'd love to see it! So remember to share your finished Felt Limes with our crafting community and on social using #MadeWithLia.
