While we consider this fiery felt beauty a beginning to intermediate project, we think it'd be a fun craft for any skill level. Our Felt Protea Repens comes with a lot of pieces to attend to, so be minful. You’re welcome to break out your craft scissors, but a cutting machine will move things along much faster. Once your pieces are cut, and the rest of your materials gathered – it’s time to craft!

The Protea Repens, also known as the Sugarbush. is a real showstopper native to the rich landscapes of Africa. With over 136 varieties, this flower stands out with its unique beauty. These flowers bloom in colors ranging from creamy whites to deep, fiery reds.

What we adore most about this flower is its fascinating structure — the true flowers are nestled at the center, surrounded by colorful, petal-like bracts that give it its signature look. Additionally, these shrubs are a beloved choice for bouquets, bringing a touch of the exotic to any arrangement.

For our Felt Protea Repens, we decided to forgo the neutral, though lovely white variety, in favor of a bold rich red. To achieve the gradient effect on the fringed center, we used a touch of Panpastel, which adds depth and that extra spark of realism. Finally, a bit of Aleene’s Stiffen-Quick Fabric Stiffening Spray helps the bracts hold their shape, making your flower look just like the real thing!

We can't wait to see your incredible Felt Protea Repens creations thriving and blooming! So don't forget to share your glorious felt masterpieces in our crafter's community or on social media using the hashtag #MadeWithLia.
