If you saw our fairy tale kids castle from a previous post, you will know what a great time my team and I had making the project using FloraCraft’s Project Bricks. Now I am going to show you how to make finger puppets to complete your fairy tale! We have five finger puppets that we made with our castle. For Part 1 of this post, I will be showing you how to make the wise wizard and dragon. We’ll also teach you how to make a princess, a knight, and a unicorn!
These finger puppets seem elaborate and complicated, but I promise that they aren’t! Learning how to make finger puppets is a wonderful beginners sewing project that your kids will actually enjoy trying. Start by printing out the PDF templates linked below. Cut out all the pieces to use as a guide for cutting your felt. There are lots of little pieces, so this is a perfect project for little fingers! Next, choose your felt colors. For the star on the wizard’s hat we also added glittery gold iron-on to felt piece, but you can easily substitute it with another color. While you are choosing your felt, you will also need to pick out matching colors of embroidery floss and some small black beads for eyes. For these puppets, we used a combination of blanket stitches, running stitches, whip stitches, and hot glue. Follow our step-by-step photo tutorial below to assemble these cute fairy tale characters!
Whether you are a seasoned finger puppet maker or you are learning how to make finger puppets for the first time, this kids castle project series is a great activity to do as a family. And talk about a wonderful gift idea! Make the whole set as a birthday present, or use it as the perfect toy for a fairy tale themed birthday party. If you think your kids would be more interested in a dollhouse set, head over to this post to see how you can build your own. And stay tuned for the templates and tutorials for the knight, princess, and unicorn finger puppets! ~ Lia
