This month is all about bringing new ideas to life, developing your DIY skills, and getting together with your crafting buddies. And that’s what we’re here to help you do. In this video, I will be showing you how to make this beautiful crepe paper dutch iris.

Become a MemberOur crepe paper dutch iris is such a beautiful flower. There’s something dramatic and striking about it, yet soft and delicate. This is also a flower that florists love because of how easy it is to arrange. However, the real flower is toxic to cats’ kidneys, so it’s a good idea to make it out of paper or felt if you want to bring a dutch iris into your home.
When you’re ready to craft your own crepe paper dutch iris, just gather the tools and materials listed below. Make sure to also download the iris flower pattern at the end of this post. If you’re using a Cricut Maker, there’s an SVG cut file for this flower. Or if you’re cutting by hand, you can use our PDF template. Once you have everything ready to go, you can watch our live video tutorial to learn how to make this flower. We will also show the heavy crepe paper Iris from this post.
Of course, you can always put your own creative spin on it! We would love to see your version of our crepe paper dutch iris and how you decide to arrange it once you’re done crafting. Make sure to share your flowers with us on our Facebook page for members. And don’t forget to tag #MadeWithLia, especially if you’re posting on Instagram.
We hope you enjoy our special live workshop this month! And if you want to see more live workshops, just let us know. Happy crafting! ~ Lia and team

I struggle with an issue of my mat getting cut up when cutting the bumpy inner petals on my Cricut. Any suggestions for setting to use to help alleviate that issue? I’d appreciate a suggestion for both heavy and fine crepe paper, since I’m using both the lilac shown here and aubergine.
It is tricky when the blade rotates tightly, and every machine cuts just a little bit differently. I would lower the setting to “less” and see if that works better. I feel that hand cutting is a great option as well when you can stack layers of crepe and cut about 6 of the extra-fine at one time. It is quick with a good pair of scissors. And it will save your mat. 🙂
Hello Lia, I don’t find the pattern for the second flower of the video, where I can find it ? Many thanks
Hello. I am not sure which flower you are referring to. The only one I made in this video is the Iris, and you can use any color.
Hi, I see the video is no longer available, will it be reposted in the future?
Hi Debbie! The video is showing up for me. It should be right under the materials section. I would try restarting your computer or trying a different browser. If you still can’t see it, email a screenshot to hello@liagriffith.com of what it looks like for you when you try to access the video. You could also try this link where it is on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4k-gITBDCdE
They need to make some yellows in the extra fine crepe paper, I saw online there is a light blue iris as a real flower but the only blue crepe paper is in heavy.
When making the heavy crepe paper iris do you use heavy green paper for the leaves?
Thanks.
Yes, you’ll see the paper listed under Materials– we used Spearmint heavy crepe paper for the leaves.
Hi Lia, Please share links to buy the wires used in this tutorial.
Hi, there are links in the post (just above the video).
Thank you!
What would you recommend using besides PanPastel to color the petals? Would regular chalk pastels work for this? I have those on hand. I am using the plum paper for my irises so markers would not work for the pollen. Any suggestions would be great!
Chalk pastels should work, they will blend in a similar way as the PanPastels. You can also grind up a piece of the chalk and use a paintbrush to apply it if you’d like 🙂
Thanks, Lia!
Can Non-Members purchase any of the SVG patterns?
Hi Irma! We don’t sell our SVG files individually. You can always try us out for a month then cancel at any time 🙂

You must be the sweetest thing I ever seen, Lia! I felt like you made the Iris video tutorial just for me! I apologize so much for missing the Live show. But, I have watched the video 3 times while down with this nasty flu bug. I am going to watch the video again, however, would like to ask a question of you. I have your paper, of course, and I saw where the petals are all facing one direction. Your instructions are to cut 6. Do I cut 6 all the same direction or do I need to cut 3 to the East and flip over the pattern and 3 to the West? I do apologize as I am still under the weather, but the crepe may look same on both sides? I was going to cut the squares and face them all forward instead of folding them together to make sure the grain was the same as well as the color and texture.
Thank you for going above and beyond for all your customers! Greatly appreciated and I couldn’t have asked for better instructions .. yet lol.
Lia, I watched you again and you answered my question! Thank you again for the detailed instructions for us newbies 🙂
Oh good, so glad to hear this 🙂
#MadeWithLia, I made my first crepe paper white iris today – will take photo when finish the others . Yeah! So happy!
Can’t wait to see!!
