Our Papercut Cardstock Halloween Framed Art turns a few sheets of cardstock into finished wall art in about thirty minutes. It's an intermediate project, mostly because papercut designs have fine details. However, the rest comes together quickly.
First, we'll cut the design from Lia Griffith cardstock. A cutting machine handles the tiniest details cleanly, though you can also cut by hand using the printable template and a steady hand.
Then we'll arrange the cut pieces and set them in a frame. Because the orange and brown sit side by side, the contrast makes every little shape in the scene stand out.
If you're cutting by hand or by machine, here's a tip we always share: start with a fresh blade. A dull blade tends to tear small pieces instead of cutting them cleanly, and papercut art is all about those small pieces.
Papercutting has a long history around the world. In Germany and Switzerland, the tradition is called scherenschnitte, which means "scissor cuts." Silhouette papercuts later became a favorite in Victorian homes, and that shadowy style still feels right at home at Halloween.
Hang your papercut Halloween art by the front door to greet trick-or-treaters, or prop it on a shelf beside our Felt Witch Kitty for a cozy seasonal vignette. Because it's framed, it tucks away neatly with your decorations and comes back out year after year. It also makes a thoughtful hostess gift for a Halloween party.
When your piece is finished, share your papercut Halloween art in our crafters' community and on social using #MadeWithLia.
