At the beginning of the summer, we decided to brainstorm specific themes that we wanted to explore for the season. We knew we wanted to make a series of projects that fit under a beachy, nautical theme (which is different from a tropical theme, of course!), and this brainstorm led to creating a whole party kit for an under the sea themed birthday celebration. After sharing printable invitations, party favors, and a backdrop with photo props, we are now sharing these under the sea cupcake toppers and wraps for your sweet party treats! You can also use the same cupcake topper designs to put together an adorable garland for your party decor. Under the Sea Cupcake Toppers

Under the Sea

Our set of under the sea cupcake toppers includes 5 different animal designs to match the party kit. Choose between the jellyfish, octopus, whale, seashell, and starfish cupcake toppers, or use all 5! Members can download the template below– use the SVG file if you have a cutting machine, or the PDF if you are cutting by hand. Cut each of these shapes onto various colors of paper to make your toppers. You can cut these onto text weight paper or card stock. Each of our under the sea cupcake toppers includes two layers of different colors of paper glued together to highlight the papercut designs. This is of course optional! Because we layered the papers, we used text weight metallic paper. If you are not going to layer the paper, I would use card stock so that the toppers are more sturdy.

If you are cutting by hand but would still like to attempt the papercut designs, I would suggest using a detail knife to cut the details in the designs. Once you have your cupcake toppers trimmed, simply attach them to toothpicks with hot glue! After finishing your cupcake toppers, you can cut out our matching wavy-edged cupcake wraps. We cut ours onto text weight metallic paper, but you can also cut these on card stock. The second part of the download includes the same designs (with a bonus sand dollar design!), only in a larger format. Cut these out in the same way as the under the sea cupcake toppers, and then string them together with string or ribbon. We used navy-striped baker’s twine and easily attached the paper designs with hot glue. A DIY garland perfect for your under the sea party decor!
