I am super excited as today is the day that I am finally able to reveal our kid’s camping theme bedroom project. Creating a children’s bedroom design that won’t grow old in less than a year can be tricky. Our teammate Anna wanted to update her son’s room in a theme that suited him and his adventurous nature now and for the next 5 years! The idea of creating a camping themed bedroom seemed ideal and we had a blast picking out the most perfect furniture from hayneedle.com and complimenting those pieces with a range of our own, fun DIY projects.

We began by choosing our color palette. Wanting to think outside the box we chose a strong palette of navy blue, fire truck red and soft grey with a sprinkling of forest green and woody brown for good measure. A great room design has as much to do with texture as color and so we incorporated items made from wood, galvanized metal and faux fur to make the room work.

We picked out the Maxwell metal desk, the Newbridge wire baskets, the Logan lanterns, the Adrian desk lamp, and Classic Playtime metal stools as our forever pieces – perfect for little Lukas to enjoy for years to come. We then softened the metal pieces by including the cozy bed sheets, a selection of bought and homemade pillows, the soft canvas teepee and the brown flokati shag rug. We added pattern with those bright red arrow DIY tab back curtains using fabric from our local fabric store and covered the closet doors with wood grain wall paper (our own design which we will share later!).

For me, a well designed room includes lots of little details that come together to perfectly compliment one another. Our handmade felt camping signs (bunting, EXPLORE banner, Great Outdoors wall hanging and Camp Adventures flag) are the perfect felt additions to our room. And our alphabet poster and vinyl decals add that little touch of handmade that every rooms needs to make it your own. Of course a few DIY felt projects are a must for our team so we made an adorable moose headfelt campfire, and fishing rod game for those soft details. When you are designing your own room, think about balancing textures, colors and prints in the same way.

The gorgeous bed we chose is the Nantucket Breeze Twin over Twin Bunk Bed in a charming dark blue color – perfect for sleepovers. We made ours cozy and inviting with the Lamont Coverlet Set, a mix of throw pillows and our fab wood grain duvet, making this the perfect space for your little camper to read, relax and drift off to sleep and dream of his or her next adventure.
