This month's Member Make workshop is a brand-new ranunculus! This is the first time we have made a crepe paper butterfly ranunculus, and we can't wait to show you how to craft it!

Ready to try something new with us? Compared to the typical ranunculus blooms we have made before which are more compact, our crepe paper butterfly ranunculus is more open and has fewer petals per flower. Because it is open, like the wings of a butterfly, you're able to see its colorful center.
Along with learning how to make this ranunculus, you'll also learn how Meagan used a brush marker and watercolors to add some gorgeous detail to these blooms. This is an area where you can get creative and really make your flowers stand out. You can also choose to make your crepe paper butterfly ranunculus in the same colors as us, or play around with the crepe colors to create different combinations.

Hi Connie! I am so sad to say that the Joy will not cut crepe paper. You will need a rotary blade for that.
I know. I actually figured out how to cut the template on my Joy Cricut. Thank you.
Ok, you are just cutting the template rather than the crepe paper. That should work. Let me know if you have any other issues. 🙂
What color Karin marker would you recommend to substitute for the Blick Merlot color? Thanks in advance.

I love your tutorials. The new format is nice and I like the overhead and closeup camera angles. Would it be possible to do longer closeups in the future when adding petals and attaching the stamen? I always watch the replay and have to “rewind” frequently but sometimes I wish I could see a bit more of each step.
I noticed in later videos you added time stamps to help locate key parts of the video. This is so helpful! Thank you for providing quality tutorials and beautiful projects.

Lia, thank you for your response. Mine are about that size. So, I’m okay. While watching from on line the flowers always appear bigger . Would you ever consider adding some suggestions with each flower for companion flowers that might look good together. Even though our choices are personal likes and dislikes, it would sometimes be so helpful to me. A book on arranging some of the flowers that you have shown us on videos and your book would be awesome. I know that I would buy it right away. Thanks. Have a great and blessed day. Wonderful class!! This was my first Lia Griffith’s flower and I’m loving it. I would love to make a bouquet with these ranunculus and other flowers, which ones would you recommend?

They are all a bit different so 2 to 2.5 inches.

In the video the vase had sold burgundy flowers too, are they marigolds made from the Aubergine crepe paper?

I love your videos but is it possible to make the question box smaller and somewhere else on the screen? It’s frustrating when it covers the flowers and you can’t see what everyone’s hands are doing in the creative process.

I watched the live today as I do all the lives since I found you, beautiful flower but I felt like you all went way too fast today and I couldn’t figure out how to answer the question to be put in the drawing. I see the materials list calls for 18 gauge and 24 gauge stem wires, but in the live/video you used thick stem and 24 gauge. The photos above look like the flower stems were more likely made on 18 gauge based on how “bendy” they appear. Just curious if I am seeing a discrepancy or if you simply updated your thinking on this flower…or???
Initially, Meagan made them with 18 gauge wire, but for the live accidentally grabbed the thick stem wire. I think I prefer the thinner 18 gauge but both work.
Can this be watched on replay? I’m watching my granddaughter today so I won’t be able to work asking with you. She’s only one, so that doesn’t give me ANY crafting time today. Lol (can’t wait for her to be old enough to craft along with me!)

I know it says 8 pm, but isn’t there more to it then that? I meen don’t you have multible timezones?

Does this pattern require double sided crepe paper that we make ourselves?
Hi Marilyn. This flower does not use any double-sided at all and you do have a keen eye. We used a sprig or two of the double-sided salal I taught in the Spring Summit to add more greenery to the images.
Hi, love the butterfly ranunculus! When I sent the svg to cricket and can’t get it to ungroup. What can I do?

The file looks fine on our end with no problems ungrouping. Try closing the cricut software and restarting, also be sure there isn’t an update needed.
I’m all cut and ready for the 20th but I’m curious if I paint my petals ahead of time so I can assemble with you, will I still be able to shape them with you? In other words, will the paint prohibit the stretch? Thanks, love love love your creations.
Feel free to paint the petals ahead of time if you like, you will still be able to shape them as needed once they dry! 🙂
Looking forward to making this gorgeous bloom! I have some water color paints on hand. Can you please describe a bit how and what colors will be used to see if mine will work? Also, would a Blick marker in wine 012 I purchased for one of your previous projects work in place of the Merlot? Thank you!
We will be using a dark pink almost magenta to add color to the petals. The wine color is slightly lighter than the merlot we used but should work just fine!

Yes, just check your size settings. Sometimes they can sneak up on you. 😉
I printed out my pdf template, just curious, it looks pretty small but so far my printer has been doing the correct size. Is there any way to know for sure?
I would guess, that your printer might have printed on a “fit page” setting.
