Although we have made some parrot tulips in the past, our crepe paper watercolor parrot tulips are more of an intermediate project. But don't worry! We will walk you through how to make these flowers step by step, including how to add watercolor to your petals for a more realistic look.
If you find that you love adding color to your paper flowers, you can also check out our April workshop from last year when we used PanPastel on our parrot tulips. There are so many ways to add color to your flowers, so feel free to experiment with different coloring methods to discover what you like best!

If I don’t have any double sided can I just use heavy crepe or extra fine?
You can make your own double-sided with the extra fine crepe. Here is a video to show you how. I do not recommend the heavy for this flower. https://liagriffith.com/craft-academy/tips-for-diy-double-sided-crepe-paper/
The flower looks lovely – but I can’t get a right setting on the Cricut. I took the double sided find crepe and tried all the crepe paper pressing Settings – but the machine is eating my mat. My friend tried it as well – but we are both not ably cutting the petals without killing our mat. Do you have any recommendation?
Hi Lena. We have several videos that talk about setting for cutting crepe paper. Have you watched any of these? The Cricut “Crepe” setting ONLY works on extra-fine crepe paper and is not set up for double-sided or heavy. I personally use the wool setting for double-sided, but here a video you can watch. https://liagriffith.com/craft-academy/cutting-machines-for-crepe-paper/
Could I use Burnt sienna instead of the dairylide yellow for the stamens?
Yes! That is a great option.
The svg uploads as 12×12 and your paper is only 9 inches long. I’ve never seen this addressed but should I change the file or how do I not waste crepe paper by having to make two passes through the machine to get all the cuts?
Pretty sure this is newbie user error. Lol
We have updated the SVG file, everything should now fit and stay in the 9.8×12 space. If you ever run across this problem again please let us know, however you can arrange your pieces in a 9.8×12 area in design space, then select them all and attach before selecting “Make It”. This will keep your pieces where you want them vs design space arranging them for you!
Love this beautiful tulip. Can I fuse two extra fine together with stitch witchery and consider this double sided as I so not have the colors I want in my stock of double sided paper? Thanks for this wonderful pattern!
Yes, you can! Share photos on our member Facebook page as I would LOVE to see the colors you pick.
I am having a little trouble and could use some help. I completed the parrot tulip in double sided white. I thought I would try some with some color. I am using my circuit maker and decided on the double-sided apricot and light rose. Well, when I go to glue them together The colors do not and cannot match up no matter how I try. Do I flip one side of each petal watching to make sure the lines are going in the right direction.
Thanks
Hi Mechell, we have updated the SVG file so you can use the two tones of double-sided paper. It should work now.
Beyond excited to make these!! They are so gorgeous!! So nice to see Megan back…what did she name her new baby doll?!!
They were great fun! Enjoy! Meagan’s little girl is Ellie May. Love that name. 🙂
Thank you for today, I do enjoy making crepe paper flowers.
This is our favorite part of the month! Making flowers with you all.
In the member make you spoke about spray paint from Blick . Was it Liquitex?
Yes, that is the brand we use as a backup. They have some nice colors as well.
During the class today Megan stated that she would be posting the photo tutorial for this project. Where will that be posted? -Thanks
They will be here in this post.
Can you cut out the template with Cricut Air Explore 2 or just Cricut Maker?
Only the Maker or a machine that has a rotary blade. Here is a great video for you to watch about cutting crepe. https://liagriffith.com/craft-academy/cutting-machines-for-crepe-paper/
I have not received the link for the workshop today.
Check your email but here it is as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYiGYjClizw

When I pull up this site there is no video or link. I’ve checked and I’m signed in so I check email for anything and I’ve got nothing for a link to be able to watch the video. Please help!! I’d really like to be involved in my first members make. Thanks so much girls!!
Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYiGYjClizw

Hi Lia,
First time here and wanted to watch the live tomorrow, is it possible to send me the link? Thank you.
Hi Minette, the link goes out via email (you can sign up to be on that list with the below link) and on our private Facebook page the morning of the live. You can also simply go to the collection page where the live will run there as well. https://liagriffith.com/2022-january-craft-collection/
Cutting my flowers for the class but confused. Where is the chiffon and juniper used? The SVG and PDF patterns only show double sided white and ferns & moss. -Thanks
The chiffon is used for the centers of the flower and the juniper to wrap the stems. Neither of those need to be precut.
What should we cut from the extra-fine crepe paper? the template only says double-sided.
And can I use extra-fine or heavy paper for the entire flower if I don’t have enough double-sided paper? thanks <3
The chiffon is used for the tiny center and the juniper is for wrapping the stems. Neither of those needs to be precut. You can use any petal color or double-sided for this flower. Of course, you can use any weight of crepe paper but the results will not quite be the same. Though all will look gorgeous.
Can you suggest any other double-sided crepe paper colours that I can use?
I don’t have the double-sided white paper with me.
Any of the colors (other than the greens) would look gorgeous. Parrot tulips come in all colors.
Hip Hip Horrah! Meagan is back. Missed her so much.
We did too!! See you Thursday!
Can’t wait to make these beautiful tulips. I haven’t used water colors yet. Thanks for all your hard work.❤️
I am looking forward to trying this beautiful Meagan design too! See you on Thursday!
These are lovely. My friend and I are considering sitting in on the event and crafting together. What makes this an “intermediate” project?
Thanks!
Since we would see this as having some extra steps with the color and centers, this seems more intermediate than a beginner, but with Meagan teaching, anyone can give it a go. If you have not taken the crepe paper flower master course yet, I highly recommend it. https://liagriffith.com/craft-academy/crepe-paper-master-course/
