Macrame Woven Easter Basket

Why buy a new Easter basket every year when you can craft your own? One of my favorite Easter baskets is the one I made out of a paper grocery bag. I have made a few different versions since then, but this year we thought it would be fun to try something new. So we turned to our macrame expert Meagan and she came up with this beautiful pink macrame Easter basket with a leather strap.
Once your kids are done collecting their eggs, they can keep this basket to play with. Another option is to remove or leave off the leather strap and use this macrame basket as home decor.

Depending on your skill level and experience, this macrame Easter basket will take anywhere from 5–8 hours to make. The more experienced you are with macrame, the faster you will be. That being said, anyone can make this basket! Our photo tutorial will guide you through each step and show you how to make the knots — but if you have any questions, just comment below.
Once you are done making your macrame Easter basket, you can fill it with eggs to display until it’s time for your Easter egg hunt. We typically like to paint wooden eggs or cotton spun eggs. For the eggs shown in these pictures, we used acrylic paint and a clear gloss spray to protect the colors. We also styled the basket with our an Easter bunny treat bag that we made last year.

How to Make a Macrame Easter Basket
- Gather your craft tools and materials. Then download the full photo tutorial below.
- Cut 60 ropes three feet in length each. Lay one rope centered on top of embroidery hoop center.
- Wrap each end of the rope down and around your embroidery hoop — left end wrapped above rope and right end wrapped below the rope.
- Lay second rope across hoop — left end above first rope and right end below. Repeat step 4 to wrap each end around your hoop. Repeat with two more ropes for four total ropes.

Leave a CommentI’m interested in making this macrame Easter basket, but before I invest in a membership and materials, I’m wondering about the embroidery hoop. I see these hoops have some sort of piece attached on one side. I don’t know what it’s called. Does this need to be removed to make the basket? Would it be easy to remove?
For this project you will need to purchase two embroidery hoops and you will use the inner hoop from each set which do not have the metal screws attached.

Are both parts of the hoop used? I can’t tell by the pictures and I don’t see where it states anything. Is there a video for this basket?
Hi Laura! Step 16 in the photo tutorial mentions the second hoop and from then on it shows both of them and what to do.
In March 2020 you stated that you were working on a series of macrame videos. I was unable to find them. Can you direct me please?
