Become a MemberAfter we saw such a positive response to our felt toucan wall hanging, we knew we had to make more toucan projects for summer! Instead of another 3D toucan design, Krista took her original illustration and turned it into this adorable 2D papercut toucan wall art that you can hang as seasonal home decor.
If you want to switch things up once the weather starts getting colder, it’s super easy to store this away for future years. You can also replace it with another one of our papercut art designs.
Toucan Do It!
This papercut toucan wall art is very easy to make. This project entails cutting and gluing cardstock, so it could be a great way to occupy your kids for a summer afternoon! If you’re using a cutting machine, you can download our SVG file. Or, if you’re cutting by hand, we have a PDF template for you.

Tools
Materials
- Cardstock (12″x12″ with a cutting machine or 8.5″x”11 if cutting by hand)
- Karin Brushmarker Pro – Rose Pink
- Posca Marker – White (for detail in eye)
- Glue Dot Roller
- Foam Adhesive Squares (to add dimension to the toucan)
- 9″x9″ Square Shadow Frame
Picking your Cardstock
Making this toucan wall art is just a matter of layering your cardstock in a visually appealing way. You can choose your own color palette, or you can replicate the teal shades that we used. We used cardstock that had a slight canvas texture to give the wall art a more professional look.
If you are using a cutting machine, you will need 12″x12″ cardstock for the finished 9″x9″ design. To make it easier to print and cut the template by hand, the PDF version is an 8″x8″ design so that you can use regular-sized cardstock.
Layering the Pieces
Download the files below and cut them according to the template. If you are cutting by hand, you may want to use an X-Acto knife to get some of the more intricate details. Once you have everything trimmed, start layering the pieces the same way we did.
We used a hot glue gun to assemble the flowers, but other than that, we used a glue dot roller to attach the layers to each other. To give the toucan some depth, we recommend using little adhesive squares behind the toucan and branch.

I would love to make the toucan project, but there are not enough links to materials to make this easy for me to do. The cardstock, marker, and pencil used in the project have no links that take the user to the place where they can easily purchase the necessary materials, and the links that are included in this project (foam adhesive square, picture frame) no longer work. I am a paying member, and I would really appreciate if the projects included on this site were occasionally updated to make sure that the links work, and the steps included are kept up-to-date. Just a suggestion, and one I believe every member would benefit from.
Hi Shannon. I really appreciate your comment here. Our shop team is working diligently to supply all the tools and materials needed for all projects. It just happens that the cardstock is at the top of our list and we will be offering color packs that are more affordable than the ones on Amazon. We are finding that a lot of our old posts have broken links due to the other shops’ changes, which is another reason to have everything supplied from our shop. Most of these products (glue dots, foam risers) are on their way, but in the meantime, I have updated the links to Amazon. For the cardstock colors, I added a link to a large pack that has all of the colors (and more). If you are wanting just to pick one sheet per color, I recommend you open the image on your phone when shopping at your local craft store and match each color. I look forward to solving this issue for all of our amazing projects! #shopgoals 😉
I wish I could make this but my mom probably wouldn’t print it, and I don’t have the paper to just cut it out. But I really love this, it is so cute!!
(I am a kid)(that would be weird if I was an adult asking my mom to print stuff for me)
Does your mom have a cutting machine? Maybe she can teach you how to use it? 🙂
I like this paper design but my parents don’t let me use glue. (yes i’m a child)
Hi Grace. Ask your parents if you can buy some of this glue. It is water-based so safe for kids and it works really well for almost all of our crafts. https://amzn.to/32uD5qP
HI! Can i use the Svg file also with the Cricut Maker or only with the Explorer air?
Yes! Our SVG files work with any Cricut machine that runs on Cricut Design Space software (as well as a few other brands of cutting machines).
Perfect birthday gift for a 14 year old who has a tropical themed bedroom!
Yes that would be perfect!
design space is telling me i have to change the size to 11.5. will the finished product be too small for a 9 x 9 frame?
The artwork is all sized to 9×9 so you shouldn’t have to resize anything. Can you email us a screenshot of your artboard? hello@liagriffith.com.
This is awesome, I love your art! Where can I find the free SVG projects? Or do all of them require a membership?
Hi Lexi,
If you search “Free” or “Freebie” in the search tab on our home page you will find some free projects. 🙂
I love this project. I just used the SVG file but it doesn’t seem to cut the circles for the eye, and it only cuts one leaf. Am I missing something? Also, is there a tutorial to show me how to put the flowers together? This is my first Lia Griffith project. TIA.
Welcome Jenny! There are 2 circles for the eyes (and we used a white colored pencil for the detail on the top circle). We did edit the SVG file to add a second leaf though. Steps 3-4 in the photo tutorial of this post (https://liagriffith.com/diy-tropical-flower-crown/) show how to put the flowers together.
Ok, I’m confused. Do you have to be a member to click, download and print? Or can you pay for the one project you are interested in? Or is this toucan project possibly free? I tried hitting the button to click, download and print, but nothing happened. Of course I am on an iPhone 7. Perhaps I need to be on a regular computer? Sorry about all the questions, but it’s first time in the site.
Welcome Rhonda! Yes you’ll need a membership to download our projects (we don’t have an option to pay per download just yet)– see more here: https://liagriffith.com/membership/. You will need to be on a computer to download the SVG files. So glad you found us!
I just made this for my daughter and it came out so cute!!
Yay! We’d love to see a photo– hello@liagriffith.com 🙂
This is really cute. Would love one with a cockatoo.
Oh that would be SO cute!
I love your projects.
Thanks Janet 🙂
