3D Paper Advent Calendar
Last year we made a fun advent calendar with glassine envelopes that we set up in a gold frame, and it actually became a craft kit in our line that was available at JoAnn Fabric and Craft Stores. This year we are feeling just as enthusiastic about our new paper advent calendar that you can use to count down the days to Christmas. You probably know how much we love treat boxes, so we decided to use that concept to create a 3D advent calendar with cute houses that can also be a display that contributes to your holiday home decor.

Download the PDF template for the paper advent calendar below. We also included an SVG file for the template, although this file will not have the printed numbers on the houses. We printed our paper advent calendar onto light cardstock in kraft. You won’t want the cardstock to be too heavy, or else it will be difficult to fold. The kraft paper gives it a more rustic, Scandinavian look, but you can use any color of cardstock that you want. The background of the file itself is white, so it would work well with a red and green color combination, or with a simple white cardstock.
After printing the paper houses, trim them with your scissors and fold along the dotted score lines. The houses will have tabs to show you where the design comes together, and we indicated where to glue for your convenience! Once you fold your paper houses, you can stick your favorite treats and trinkets inside. Seal the houses with glue, or add an adorable spin to the paper advent calendar with some ribbon or twine. Use a small hole punch to punch holes at the top of the houses and trees and then tie a pretty bow.

Nice, but are the content of the houses/ advent calendar (boxes) be filled with something? Thanks.
Yes! You can fill the little boxes with treats or notes. 😉
Hi Lia – I love your entire presentation here and want to get an early start this year. Tell me, please, your additional mantle pieces (trees and any other shapes)… are they also patterns available to your members? I would imagine some patterns for paper ornaments would be lovely, too. Thanks for having plenty of those.

Hi! Most of what you see here is store bought decor but since this post (a few years ago!) we have created so many fun options that would look amazing on a mantel: https://liagriffith.com/frosted-paper-honeycomb-trees/, https://liagriffith.com/paper-canal-houses-for-christmas/, https://liagriffith.com/paper-snowflake-trees/, https://liagriffith.com/3d-paper-cabin/, https://liagriffith.com/3d-paper-tree-ornaments/, https://liagriffith.com/extra-fine-crepe-paper-christmas-tree-cones/… Lots more here: https://liagriffith.com/craft/holidays/christmas-holiday-crafts-2/!
Excellent. Will the patterns fit on an A4 page, I’m in the UK. Thanks
Yes, it should work on A4! I believe it’s close to our Letter size paper, which is 8.5″ x 11″.
Hi what dimensions are the boxes? Thanks
Hi! There are a few different designs so the overall dimensions vary, but I can tell you each box pattern fits on one 8.5×11 piece of paper (except for day 25, it needs 2 pieces of paper).
I think the PDF file is corrupted. They only show up in part. I’ve tried 3 times to open it and always the same. Each one is cut off and the top is missing. =(
Hi Janet, the PDF seems to be working fine on our end! Are you downloading it to your computer? If you try opening it through a web browser, it may look corrupt. If you can send a screenshot to hello@liagriffith.com, we can help you better.
Thank you Lia. I was simply clicking the link and it was opening in another browser window. I just tried the download with control-click on my mac and it downloaded. IT’s PERFECT! Thank you so much! Didn’t realize I could do that!
