With Valentine’s Day coming up next month, we obviously had to make a rose in honor of the holiday. We have made many roses over the years out of paper and felt. So if you’re looking to start with something simpler than this crepe paper hybrid tea rose, you may want to browse our rose collection and try one of those flowers first.
Along with learning how to make this crepe paper hybrid tea rose, you will learn how to color your petals with PanPastel. You’ll notice that we used our double-sided vanilla & chiffon crepe paper for this flower. So this means we will be using a lot of PanPastel to achieve this pretty peachy-orange shade for your roses.
Of course you are always welcome to use a different color of crepe paper or PanPastel. Whatever you do with your flowers, we’d love to see them! Be sure to post photos on our Crafters Community page, or use the hashtag #MadeWithLia on Instagram.

Lia,
When I upload the SVG file, is that the actual size that it should be? Or do I need ungroup and adjust. I use the Cricut Maker and used what you an Meagan used, but Tea Rose wasn’t as great as yours. Do I need to make it bigger. 🙂
BTW, I love all of your work!
Theresa
Thank you!
On all of the new flower files, there is a marked size in the upper left corner, so you can confirm that Cricut has not resized the file. Do not ungroup, but change the size if needed, then delete that whole designer note layer. If you have not watched the Cricut Skill Course, I do go over all of this and more. You might enjoy watching at least the first section. https://liagriffith.com/craft-academy/a-crafters-guide-to-the-cricut-maker/
Hi Lia,
Does Meagan have a website or YouTube tutorials? This was most impressive since I always have use ink and would prefer the Panspastel powder on both crepe paper and regular card stock paper.
Also, I had know idea about using Krylon Matte spray for paper projects. I plan on using it for my next paper project.
Thank you,
Theresa
Meagan is part of the Lia Griffith team; she is a key contributor to our site and channel. We work together as a team to bring you the best templates and ideas.
Hello Lia. What kind of spray can be substituted for the Krylon UV Resistant? I can’t find it in my area!
You can use any artist fixative that you should be able to find at your local craft store. Remember to dust it with several coats rather than heavy wet spray.
Spraying these with the Krylon is a must for me! I used lots of Panpastel on my daughters wedding flowers and sprayed them to keep the bridesmaid dresses and hands clean. They were also on the tables and we asked guests to take them home. I didn’t want anyone to have an issue with them so I sprayed everything (and still do). I had several wine empty wine bottles with a little sand in bottom that I put a few in to spray. No foam and no holding. It worked well because I could easily move the bottle if I needed to and made quick work of it. I also enjoyed emptying the bottles, lol!
I love this! lol. Thanks for sharing that the spray really works for you.
So I’m trying to find the krylon spray in Canada. What is the way to do it, pedals before assembled or spray after all assembled? Thank you
I prefer to spray the entire flower once you have finished assembling it!
Lia,
I loved the roses Megan and you made to teach us during our Member Make. Since I had Blush/Chiffon in stock and wanted to use it, I cut out my petals. What color of the pan pastel should I use, to match my double sided crepe paper? Please advise. I’ve cut the petals and am ready to make the roses. They look so beautiful and grand.
I think you can use the same colors of PanPastel that we have in the video. It should give you a very similar look.
Hi Lia and team,
What colors of pan pastel would you suggest for this flower if I used the Cherry/Raspberry or the Aubergine/Sangria? Also, what a greast tutorial, this is the first rose I was able to accomplish. Thank you for an amazing tutorial.
Thanks Jennifer, glad you liked this flower so much! I think a dark purple or maroon PanPastel would look great with the Aubergine and maybe a brighter red or red orange for the cherry/raspberry to brighten it up. 🙂
Hi Lia.
I am trying to view this video on my ipad or cell phone, but both of them say “Sorry. Because of its privacy settings, this video cannot be played here.” Is this normal?

Oh my goodness! Having finished the Masterclass flowers (love every one of them), I’ve just completed this month’s member make. Megan, you knocked it out of the park!! I love it so much – can’t wait for the lisence for this one. I have so many visions of how to use this rose in arrangements and gift items. Bravo and thanks!
I love to hear that, Diana!! Can’t wait to see the photos. 😉
I have found that ROSES and I didn’t like one another. Maybe with this tea rose I might be able to strike a nice relationship with it,. I will be thrilled to try. Thank Meagan…..
I hope so! 😉 She made it really easy to follow.
I changed the color of the flowers to match the master class 2 so I can use them in my bouquet. I wasn’t sure if orange would work.. I really enjoy these classes so much.
That is a great idea!
Hi Lia and team such a gorgeous gorgeous rose I am busy doing the master class but are definitely going to try and make this flower. Enjoying the master class this is my 2nd one so I think have learnt a bit more. Thank you so much
That is so good to hear! Yes, you will have the rose waiting for you. It will make the perfect finale. 😉
The svg file that downloads doesn’t match the pdf template. Is there another svg file?
It looks like the files are correct on our end, where are you seeing a difference?
your new tutorials are so so good
Yay! We love this update too.
Can’t wait to try these! When placing the petals, which color is facing inward, the Vanilla or Chiffon, or does it matter?
Once you have the PanPastel color on the crepe, it does not matter. A bit of variation really looks pretty.
Where can I find the thick stems. I’m from Canada and can’t find them on Amazon?Thankyou
We have them in our shop at FeltPaperScissors.com
Hello! Any suggestions for Burnt Sienna Shade PanPastel substitution? I have Burnt Sienna…will that work?
Burnt Sienna will work, any darker red or magenta would also look lovely. We will be using this color to add a bit of color to the leaves and sepals.
I love roses!
Yay! Hope you can join us on Friday!
The svg file comes up as an html file, how do I get it so I can put it in Adobe photoshop?
Here is a video to teach you how to download SVGs from our site and upload it into design space. https://liagriffith.com/craft-academy/how-to-use-files-cricut/
Any chance there could be a partial open bud made with this bouquet?
This is something you can ask Meagan at the Live event. I am sure she will have a great answer. 🙂
I cannot wait for this one! I need to really improve my rose making! This is just gorgeous!!!
I am excited about next Friday’s class too! See you there.
How do we get the orange effect?
Come to the Live or watch the replay, and Meagan will demonstrate how to use the PanPastels for this gorgeous effect!
Hi. Still behind everyone but oh well, I’ve been under the weather and then the holidays. I’m so happy of the new format for the picture instructions. Thanks for the great projects.
This video will be live on January 20 so you have time to join us! 😉
Hi there, so looking forward to our Member Make. Can I ask about printing the PDF? Should it be portrait or landscape? Sometimes I get it wrong and my petals come out the wrong size! My daughter bought me the double sided crepe as a present and i dont want to make a mistake and waste it! Thanks
Print the PDF in a landscape, but be sure to make it 100%. Sometimes it will default to “fit page” which makes the template smaller.
Wow, these a beautiful! Can’t wait to get started. I have often shied away from roses because they never seem to come out the way I’d like. I will definitely give this one a try. I love the color, one of my favorites! Megan is amazing!
I totally understand. Roses are tricky. If you want to try one before the class and have not tried this version yet, I highly suggest it, as it does seem to come together easier. https://liagriffith.com/craft-academy/double-sided-crepe-blooming-buds-and-roses/
Would this work with heavy paper? My family just got me tons of heavy paper for Christmas that I’d like to use.
You can make it with heavy crepe paper, but it will not look the same. The heavy crepe paper is not as refined as the double-sided.
I was excited to see these when you previewed them at last month’s member make. I love making paper roses and crepe paper makes them so beautiful. I splurged on PanPastels and they are worth it. It will be fun to use them for this project.
Yes! This is a pastel intense rose, and I can’t wait to see how she teaches it. 🙂
this tea rose if absolutely gorgeous. Thanks Meagan!
I will pass that along to Meagan!
I’m so excited for this project. I have been working on my rose techniques – excited this is intermediate – I’m up for the challenge!
Yes, you are!! 😉
Can’t wait to get started on these beautify roses. I have made roses in the past using cone coffee filters and dying them with food gel dye, so really looking forward to learning a new medium by using crepe paper etc. Thanks Megan for creating such a beautiful flower – looking forward to seeing the video tutorial in 19 days….so long to wait, but they do say patience is a virtue….LOL
Hi Melanie! If you are new to crepe paper, I do hope you can join us for the master class that starts today! https://liagriffith.com/craft-academy/a-beginners-guide-to-crepe-paper-flowers-vol-2/
What a beautiful flower Meagan has come up with for the new year. I have always found roses very intimidating, but I am going to give this one a try. Thank you.
I love that you say that because Meagan said the same about being intimidated, yet look at the gorgeous rose she designed. 😉
Very excited to make these. They are beautiful! Thanks.
Meagan knocked it out of the park!!
