Felt OctopusSponsoredBy_AChildsDream

To begin this project, you will need to pick out some felt. We used Holland Wool Felt from A Child’s Dream Come True for our felt octopus, and the stuffie turned out gorgeously. A Child’s Dream has a gorgeous color palette of 100% wool felt. We used 1mm felt in Cool Blue and Aquamarine for this project, but their purples and greens are so vibrant that I know I will have to use those for another project! This felt is great for kids because it is not made with any harmful substances and not flammable, unlike acrylic felt. We used 4 colors of felt in total for this stuffie: an 18″ x 18″ sheet of Aquamarine, an 18″ x 18″ sheet of Cool Blue, an 8″ x 12″ sheet of white for the sailor’s hat, and an 8″ x 12″ sheet of blush for the rosy cheeks. The specific colors do not matter so feel free to explore your creativity for this one! Generally, we used the slightly lighter shade of blue for the underside of octopus. You will also need 2 black buttons for the eyes (we used 3/4″ buttons). In order to make the felt octopus arms bendy, you can add pipe cleaners in with wool stuffing when you stuff the arms. Once you have your materials, you can print the PDF template below as a guide for cutting your felt or use the SVG file with your Cricut Maker. Members can download the printable instructions and follow the step-by-step photo tutorial to sew your felt octopus together. You can add more pipe cleaners to each arm depending on how bendy you would like them to be. It is all up to you!

  1. Gather materials and print out template.
  2. Cut out felt pieces according to pattern.
  3. Pin two pieces of the octopus body together. Blanket stitch along one side to just the top of the head using the matching aquamarine embroidery floss, split into 3 strands. Repeat with the other two body pieces.
  4. Pin the sewn body pieces together and blanket stitch all four together, stitching over the top of the head to the other side.
