Crepe Paper Sweet Peas Video Workshop
Pretty Pretty Peas
Light, airy, and full of movement, sweet peas have charmed gardeners for generations. Their soft petals and climbing stems bring a sense of ease to any arrangement. Our Beginner Crepe Paper Sweet Pea Blooms capture that same delicate beauty, adding a romantic touch to your paper flower collection this season. Also, not only is this project featured in our new book, Paper Flower Garden, but it will also be a part of our May Flower Friday video workshop series!

Our beginner-friendly design focuses on simple techniques and intentional assembly. The petals are naturally ruffled, which means style over perfection — so no need to sweat the process. You’ll stretch and form each piece of your Crepe Paper Sweet Peas just enough to replicate that signature softness. For ease and precision, we highly encourage you to use a cutting machine. However, you’re certainly welcome to cut your pieces by hand for a more organic look.
Gardeners first cultivated sweet peas in 17th-century Italy, and then named them for their sweet scent and pea-like pods. Over time, they’ve come to symbolize gratitude, pleasure, and fond farewell — often given in quiet thanks or sweet goodbyes. Likewise, that same sense of tenderness carries into these Crepe Paper Sweet Peas, each bloom as wild and free as the ones curling up your garden trellis.
And while their delicate beauty and sweet perfume may be alluring to us, sweet peas are actually quite toxic to pets. Our crepe paper version offers a thoughtful alternative for homes with curious cats or dogs. You get all the beauty, but none of the worry. So think of this project as no risk — all reward.
When your Crepe Paper Sweet Pea Blooms are ready, gather them into a small vase or mix them into a larger arrangement for a layered, garden-inspired display. And of course, we can’t wait to see what you create, so share your blooms in the crafters’ community and on social using #MadeWithLia.
Also, you’ll find this bloom inside our new book, Paper Flower Garden, featuring 28 unique flower designs organized into seven seasonal garden sections.

Leave a CommentCould you use crepe stem wrap instead of the floral tape?
Yes, we are updating this project and using crepe. 🙂
I am a member. Do I need to buy this also?
Hello Eunice! As a Craft Circle member, you have full access to anything on the site. If you are seeing a price for this project, just make sure you are signed in. 🙂
I’m making these flowers for my daughter to go in an amazing light pink vintage “tea pot” vase she found recently. I am newish to Cricut – the svg file indicates that the largest petal is 1.17 X 1.4 inches. Is this correct? I didn’t see any indication to scale differently on either the svg or any of the other instructions. I know sweet peas are delicate but just wanted to check before I got too far along! Thanks!
Hello LouAnn! If you use the printable template (be sure to print at 100%), you can see the exact petal size that should match the cutting machine file. Also, as a Craft Circle member, you have access to the last version of the Crepe Paper Flower Master Class (it is a few years old, but still good) and it has the sweet peas as one of the flowers I make on video. Here is a link to that master class you can find again in the Craft Academy tab. https://liagriffith.com/craft-academy/tracks/crepe-paper-flowers-master-class/
Love these flowers and can’t wait to start making them. I made some journals as gifts for friends and these will be lovely to include as part of the gift wrapping. Thank you so much!
I hope you are joining us for the crepe paper flower master class. This is one of the flowers that I teach in this course. 🙂
HI Lia! I really liked this SVG, if you create it for felt . Thank you!
I will pass that along to Krista.
Hi, these are so beautiful! Could you explain a little further how the pliers are used to create the coils? After twisting the strip of crepe paper with the glue inside, do you wrap it around the nose of the pliers (with the glue drying and maintaining the shape)?
Yes, and if you are using glitter glue, it will set really quickly. You can also wrap it around thick stem wire. I am going to be teaching this flower in our next updated crepe paper master class.
Hi Lia – just a random question pertaining to these gorgeous sweet peas as well as most of your flowers – would I have to alter the template much if I wanted to use heavy crepe paper instead of fine? I have a over abandance of heavy that I need to use up before I can purchase more
Hi Lisa! If you partially stretch the heavy, maybe 50%, you can get a softer paper that would work with the templates.
Hi there – is there a video for this instructions
This flower does not have a video but I will add it to our Member Make list for future videos.
Hi Lia,
This does not really help. Got how to do the small petal. It is how to arrange the next 3 petals behind the smallest petal. Will this flower be covered in the master class?
You glue the two medium petals on each side of the smallest, with their edges lining up to the center. Then you place the largest petal behind them, again, centered. This is not in the master class, but we go over techniques that give you the confidence to make most flowers.
Hi Lia,
I did look at the picture tutorial but it is still hard to see how the petals should be attached
Laura
I am guessing you are meaning attached to the wire? For the smaller petal, you add glue to the tip and place it into the center of the petal then fold the petal over the wire, opening it back up so that the wire is hidden in the center fold. You then can attach your larger petal behind. Does this help? Are you taking the Crepe Paper Master Class this month? I think that class is so great for anyone to feel really comfortable in making any paper flower.
Hi Lia,
I love these flowers but the instructions to put them together are very vague. Can you provide more detailed instructions for assembling the petals? I want to use these flowers in a garland I am designing for my home office window.
Thanks,
Laura Niles
Hi Laura. Did you look at the photo tutorial that is provided in the downloads?
Wondering about the strip of crepe paper referred to in Instructions #16 – 20. How long/wide? With or against the grain? I’m assuming using the cypress paper, same as the leaves. Sorry if this was addressed earlier.
Thank you for catching that! The SVG has been updated to include that missing piece.
Hat jemand Erfahrung ,mit krepppapier schneiden mit der Silhouette?
Hi Lia! I love these flowers, and can’t wait to make them!! Unfortunately Amazon is out of stock on the thick wire stems. Any suggestions on what I can replace that with? Thanx in advance! Your website is the best best best!
Oh bummer! Those come in & out of stock often, so keep checking back. But in the meantime, you could wrap 3 18-gauge wires together with floral tape, or wrap 1 18-gauge wire with several layers of floral tape.
