Merry Magnolias
I love picking a different flower each year to focus on for the holidays. This year it's the magnolia — a fresh change from the traditional poinsettia that is often used for Christmas. This crepe paper holiday magnolia is going to be one of the decorations on our 2020 Christmas tree, which we will do a tree reveal post on Friday after Thanksgiving.
To help you make this flower, we have created a video tutorial for you that breaks down each step and shares tons of crafting tips.
A prickly pear, Getting the the point
Beginner-intermediate. Stitches used: whip, ladder, straight stitch, and french knot. Also called a nopal or opuntia cactus - the fruit, flowers, and pads are all edible. We've made a few different varieties of cacti over the years, but this one is definitely the biggest! It has a wire structure and posts at the base, which you can then arrange into a pot with foam and covered with decorative stones. We made 3 cacti to arrange in a pot. The cactus pads are all lightly stuffed, then embroidered to create a slight tufted look. The fruits are embroidered and perched atop the cacti pads, and there's even a blooming flower.
