Designed by Krista, she created this brand-new pattern for our felt unicorn kit in the shop. And we have now made it available for our members to download! You can still get the kit if you need all of the materials we used, but of course you can always personalize this craft project by choosing your own felt colors and embroidery floss.
If you are making this felt unicorn for a little one who loves unicorns, you might also want to craft some unicorn wall art, our fairytale finger puppets, or a felt stick unicorn for them to ride around on.

How to Make a Felt Unicorn
- Gather your craft tools and materials. Then download the pattern on the right hand side at the top of this post.
- Cut out felt according to pattern, using either your scissors (recommended) or your cutting machine (optional).
- Sew the legs to the underside piece using 2 strands of the white lavender embroidery floss and a whip stitch, working from what will be the inside of the legs. Match and follow the curve of the leg openings, and ensure that the legs are facing the right way.
- Repeat for all of the legs.

How tall is it? Could a 12 cm rope doll ride it? I need some knights to ride horses and unicorns and Pegasus etc
From the back to the table top it is 4 inches tall. You can resize the template to fit your doll.
I signed up for a membership for the flower patterns and tutorials, but now that I’m looking over all the craft projects, I really want to try making some of the felt stuffies like this unicorn! So cute! I’m a little intimidated since I don’t have much experience with this type of craft, but I’m hopeful that all the tutorials on your website will help me along the way!
Welcome to our wonderland. 😉 We have two things for you! First. . . next week is our craft summit. You can see the schedule on our homepage. We are doing a stuffie “tips and tricks” on one of these days. Second, we have a Skill Course for you! This was filmed with Krista, who is our stuffie designer. https://liagriffith.com/craft-academy/8-steps-to-create-any-felt-stuffie/
I’m trying to use the SVG cut file to make the unicorn for the first time. I’ve made 4 from the PDF file & had no trouble. When I measure the body of the unicorn in the PDF file, it measures to 6″ tall x 6″ wide, but the SVG file only measures to about 6″ tall x 5.25″ wide. Has the pattern been modified in the past couple of months? I don’t want to waste felt to cut this on my Cricut Maker 3 if the size isn’t correct. Please let me know.
Hi Lauri. We have updated the unicorn to this new template. This matches the unicorns in the photos. The older unicorn has been discontinued. You can tell the difference between the two by the copyright date. The newest is 2022.
Hi, are you aware the SVG file is actually incorrect and different to the PDF template? I only noticed as I just cut out 4 of the template with my cricut and went to sew them together and its incorrect. Unable to be used and a waste of my felt. 🙁 Can you fix this asap please as I sized slightly smaller and now unable to get same measurements using PDF template…
Hello. I am having trouble understanding the mane. I assume you pull the string through so that both sides are at even lengths. Where and how do you double knot?
Hi Jeri. Yes, you will want to have both sides the same length then tie the two together at the center in a double knot. We actually have a brand new version of this unicorn that we are selling as a kit in our shop. It uses safety eyes rather than beads as well. https://feltpaperscissors.com/product-category/felt-kits/
I am not understanding how to make the mane?
We can help! What questions do you have?
I’m at the part with the tail and cut 25 pieces of embroidery floss. Once I knot them, the tail seems short. I noticed the wording in the instructions is strands. Should I separate the individual threads and count those as a strand?
Hi Kristi! I can see how this is confusing – it’s 12 pieces of floss cut to 7″ long, folded in half, and then knotted on the folded end. You can leave them longer if you want a longer tail, too.
They look very cute! How long would you guess these take to make?
Hi Liz,
Depending on your skill level this project could take between 2 – 4 hours to make 🙂
I am having difficulty in downloading the instructions for the unicorn, it is very different from the other felties animal instructions which have been easy to download, I can’t even copy and paste these step by step photos. Please look into this particular one for me and let me know how to download, there is no post at the bottom of the page to refer to?
Hi Julie,
To save the step photos you can right click on the image and “save image as”. The instructions and pattern for this project are at the bottom of the page, simply click on the one you would like to download and it should download. We are not having any issues downloading this project, if you continue to have problems with this post please send a screenshot of the issue and send it to hello@liagriffith.com so we can better assist you. 🙂
Hi. I became a member today as I wanted to make the unicorn for my grandchildren. I couldn’t find a tutorial on it .. Is there one? Also I printed out the pattern and reading the instructions it says to match up the dots on the body and belly etc but the pattern only has one dot on the body and that is on the nose. So I don’t know where to match up the belly to the body. Can you help me with this please. Glenda
Hi Glenda, welcome! The photo tutorial is in the post, at the bottom. You can print this out if you save the image to your desktop, or you can refer to the post online and follow the written instructions that you can download. Page 2 of the PDF template has the rest of the pattern, and includes the dots 🙂
I would like to remake these unicorns with my daughter. It looks very pretty.
