Since most of us are staying home right now, we want to give you more ways to enjoy your space. That's why our May Craft Collection is all about creating your own paradise at home! One way you can do this is by making your own tropical flowers. The hibiscus is one of our favorites, so we've decided to craft some new crepe paper hibiscus flowers for this month's Member Make.

- Extra-Fine Crepe Paper — Ruby or Cranberry and Juniper

- Tacky Glue or Bearly Art Precision Craft Glue
- Thick Paper Covered Stem Wire
- Floral Wire – 24-Gauge Paper Covered Green
- Floral Wire – 24-Gauge Paper Covered White
- Karin Brush Marker — Fire Red and Colorless Blender

These crepe paper hibiscus flowers make such beautiful home decor. They would also be so pretty for a tropical baby shower or bridal shower. If you are having to cancel any in-person events right now and do them virtually, you can still decorate one of your rooms and have everyone else do the same so it feels like you're celebrating together.
Although you can get as creative as you want to when making your crepe paper hibiscus flowers, we will say that using a blender marker is really important in creating the watercolor effect in the center of the flower. We also recommend ruffling the edges of your petals with your fingers. We will show you these techniques during our live workshop, so don't worry if you're not quite sure how to do this yet!

If you were using these in an arrangement with bird of paradise and plumeria, would this be your focal flower? What type of greenery would you suggest to use?
Yes, I think these could still be the focal, depending on how you place them. The bird of paradise can be the line flower. I would add some large monstera leaves at the base. I love this flower. I was about to make it and the directions call for Blush- but I don’t see that color used in the template. Am I missing something?

We made this flower in coral and some in blush for some variety. You’re not missing anything 🙂 If using the colors suggested in the template you will make the flower seen on the far left in the title photo.
How about Panpastel, would that work instead of the Blick studio markers? If yes, what Panpastel colour would work?
Yes, we do love the PanPastel colors. They might not be quite as dark as the marker but I would suggest the Magenta or Magenta Shade.
Is there a copic equivalent for the blick studio markers? Thanks!
I am sure there is one. We don’t use copic anymore because of their cost. We do not have a chart for these but you can see from photos what a similar color might be.
Prior to Lia Griffith, I belonged to a group creating projects from cardstock. Listening to the owner on each project was fun but eventually, for me, became the most boring thing I forced myself to do. Lia, you have the most infectious personality! Hi , I’m having trouble finding a hibiscus pattern that I can print out for the master class. My lesson did not come with it. I see it will be used for May 15. Do I need to wait? The one I can print is the orange one I want the pale pink one. Help please. Thank you.
Hi Claudia, the Hibiscus is on the last page of the Lesson 2 workbook, with the Lily. This hibiscus pattern was for the Member Make last May in 2020.
What size are the petals please as my cutter has reduced them to make them fit.
Hi! The petals are about 3.5″ tall x 1.8″ wide.
I have checked multiple times, and the thick paper stemmed wire is out of stock. I have been wanting to use it not just for making this hibiscus but also other projects. Do you have any suggestions about what to use or do instead? Thank you.

Sadly this wire often goes out of stock, we are working on sourcing it so we can sell it in our shop, until then we would recommend attaching three 18 gauge wires together with floral tape or building up one wire by wrapping many layers of floral tape or crepe paper around it.
I found it on amazon yesterday 5/24 back in stock.

We also love copic markers which are very similar to blick markers. If you are unable to find copic any other brand of alcohol based markers will work as well. 🙂
